Owner's Description

THIS IS ONE OF TWO REPRINTS FROM 1976, (FIRST REPRINT PRINTED IN 1974) OF THE # 1 SUPERMAN FIRST REPRINT FROM 1976 IS THE FREE SAFEGUARD ISSUE, the SECOND ISSUE WAS A 10c COPY WAS PRINTED LATER THAT YEAR. THIS YEAR HAS A SURPRISING LARGE CGC CENSUS POPULATION IN HIGH GRADES OF 9.8. MY PHILOSOPHY IS NOT MANY PEOPLE TOOK THE TIME TO SEND IN THE SAFEGUARD SOAP LABELS, THAT LEFT MANY COMICS UNCLAIMED BY COLLECTORS. THOSE COMICS IN PRISTINE CONDITION THEN FOUND THEIR WAY INTO THE COLLECTORS MARKET AFTER SITTING ON SHELVES UNTOUCHED FOR DECADES. SOMEHOW THEY WERE FILTERED INTO THE HOBBY / THIS IS MY THEORY WHY SO MANY IN PRISTINE CONDITION TODAY. CAN NOT CONFIRM BUT FEEL IT IS A SOLID HYPOTHESIS ON THE MYSTERY.

ALTHOUGH HIGH GRADE IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY AT THE TOP IT LOOKS AS IF IT HAS BEEN CUT OFF. THIS WAS PART OF THE MINOR PROBLEM PRINTING THIS ISSUE. WHAT IS MISSING ON THE TOP IS ACTUALLY MADE UP ON THE BOTTOM OF THIS COMICS IMAGE AND IS A TYPICAL PRINTING ERROR. YOU CAN SEE THE BOTTOM OF THE COVER IMAGE PRINTED IS LONGER THAN ON OTHER ISSUES IN THIS SERIES. THE MAN IN THE LEFT BOTTOM CORNER HAS A LITTLE MORE OF HIS BODY SHOWING THAN IN OTHER ISSUES PRINTED. THIS WAS NORMAL NOT THE CASE OF SOMEONE TRYING TO CUT OFF THE COMICS IMPERFECTIONS FOR A BETTER GRADE AS HAPPENS IN MANY CASES. YOU CAN SEE THE PRINTERS PAGE CUTTING LINE ON THE REVERSE BOTTOM OF THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE. HAVE SEEN A FEW OTHER GGC ISSUES GRADED 9.8 "EXACTLY" LIKE THIS ONE. QUESTIONED HIGH GRADE BECAUSE THE TOP OF THE WRITING OF SAFEGUARD IS CUT SLIGHTLY ALONG THE TOP REVERSE. THAT DIDN'T SEEM TO BE AN ISSUE WHEN CGC GRADED IT AND WAS ACCEPTABLE IN THEIR GRADING PRACTICES. MANY HIGH-GRADE COPIES CURRENTLY HAVE "ASKING PRICES" OF $299 TO $1199. NOT CONFIRMED ANY ACTUAL SALES FOR THIS ISSUE WITH THOSE HIGH PRICES. I STILL FEEL MOST OF THOSE COMICS ARE OVER PRICED BY UNINFORMED SELLERS. THE SAFEGUARD ISSUE IS MORE COMMON THAN THE 10c ISSUE. IT IS ALSO ONE OF THE SUPERMAN REPRINTS WITH ASKING PRICES ARE ALWAYS ALL OVER THE BOARD. THERE ARE 55 COPIES GRADED 9.8 FOR THE SAFEGUARD ISSUE NOT RARE BUT WOULD BE CONSIDERED SCARCE. ONE COPY GRADED 9.4 SIGNATURE SERIES IS CURRENTLY ON E- BAY @ $1500 OFFER, IT IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF SELLERS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF UNINFORMED BUYERS. IT IS 1 OF 1 BUT NO WAY IS THAT ASKING PRICE CLOSE TO ITS ACTUAL VALUE. A 9.4 CGC GRADED ISSUE IS $100 AT BEST...SIGNED MAYBE $300 "TOPS". STILL NOT WORTH THE $1500 ASKING PRICE. SELLERS ARE BRUTAL TAKING ADVANTAGE OF BUYERS WITH THESE STUPID INFLATED PRICES. MORE FOUND GRADING 9.8 SHOULD MAKE THE PRICES DROP. THE 10C 1976 ISSUE SELLERS PRICES ON AVERAGE ARE OVER $399 + WITH MANY SELLERS ASKING PRICES "WAY" OVER VALUED. PRICES ARE INFLATED NOWHERE NEAR ACTUAL RETAIL VALUE. ANOTHER PRISTINE 1976 SAFEGUARD ISSUE 9.8 ON WAS BEEN ADDED TO THIS SET WITH NO CUTTING OF SAFEGUARD ON THE REVERSE. 1976 AND THE 1992 & 1993 SIGNED JERRY SIEGEL COPIES ARE THE YEARS THAT SELLERS ARE OVER PRICED VALUES. THE 1976 10c ISSUE PRICES RANGE FROM $375 - $1195 NOT WORTH THE HIGH-END PRICES.
