Set Description
I have always felt that Stan Lee and Marvel Comics are were one in the same. In 1972 I bought my first comic book off the stands at the local "Piggly Wiggly" drug store and was immediately hooked.. Comics became my world and I would love getting lost in it. Always excited to read and write to Stan's soapbox, with his quick wit and sincerity, he quickly became my idol. I would have never dreamed that one day I would actually be sitting at a table in seclusion with Stan, handing him books one at a time to sign as we spoke, his quick witted humor rolling off his tongue at the drop of a hat, watching him sign the same books I once owned in significantly inferior condition, except now considered the highest graded copies in existence. As a young collector on a very limited budget, I would have never dreamed this moment on were possible. On Numerous levels. In retrospect, it blows my mind. I cannot even begin to think of what my childhood would have been like without this man. It was an honor, a privilege and a dream come true. Stan’s signature, like memories, will stand the test of time. His signature is unique and instantly recognizable and having his signature on one of his prized character titles adds so much more than merely having a signature on a book. It’s knowing that the man himself touched the book, sincerely placing his own signature on it’s cover. It creates if you will, a form of comic memorabilia that simply cannot be replaced, It resonates something very special. This collection began with first Issue's, first appearances & origins from the 1968 era during Marvel’s plethora of character introductions and self-titled spinoffs of the late 1960's. A slight stretch into 1967 and 1969 quickly blossomed into pushing the initial boundaries while avoiding the obvious "61 -64 era" or anything north of 74', Although this set transcends the limits of the prime Marvel year of 1968, it also includes a selection of outstanding late silver- early bronze age titles, with emphasis focused on key issues. Certainly, first issues and appearances of mainstream titles from 1961-64 capture headlines, however this set represents something different, it’s a personal heartfelt tribute during an era in which I grew up feeling comforted, un-alone and deeply influenced by this man, a man who I grew to idolize, who made a true believer out of me. A man universally known as Stan 'The Man' Lee.

Set Goals
My Goal is to share my heartfelt passion, respect, admiration and appreciation for Stan 'The Man' Lee and display some of his signed treasures.

Stan Lee CGC Signature SeriesSignature 6.5 Single highest CGC signature series copy. The inclusion of this Summer of 1941 gem was one of the few exceptions to the rule for this custom set. AW #1 represents Stan's earliest work as a writer in comics. Preceded only by Captain America #3 ( May 1941), in which the young apprentice was given an opportunity to show his wares by writing a small story albeit all in text. This also happens to be the 1st issue & 1st appearance of the All-Winners Squad.
In case you are wondering where Stan's Signature is, it just so happens to be inside on the 1st page and is viewable by means of the QR Code located on the CGC label in the upper right hand corner. The site hosting the image appears to be down at the moment. upper right of page is down at the moment, however when up it will show Stan's Signature on interior front page.

So many times I would search for the perfect spot for Stan's Signature. The book would be prepped, and and window cut, yet more often than not, it wouldn't quite turn out as expected. In this case, it worked out perfectly !! BAM There it is, smack dab in the middle, actually adding to the cover rather than taking away. To me a successful signature is one that precisely does this -- it ads rather than diminishes. View Comic

Stan Lee CGC Signature SeriesIncredible Hulk 102 Signature 9.8 Highest graded SS copy. Just 3 9.8's exist The Hulk takes over the numbering of the former Tales to Astonish and makes it his own! Picked not only for being one of the great 68s, it also features a spectacular metamorphosis from Banner to Hulk by the superb Marie Severin. These are the kind of Hulk-outs that fans would tune into a decade later on the Hulk TV show! The signature in silver by Stan on Hulk's fist just adds to the drama of this cover. This was the 1st 9.8 I had signed by Stan. Signed on Halloween by the man himself, we eventually sold it years ago to an avid collector. Our 2nd attempt resulted in a beauty of a 9.8 being reduced to a 9.6 as Stan inadvertently rolled his thumb onto the silver ink, leaving a bit of a smeared thumbprint mark ( can one say DNA ?) onto the signature. I had my eyes on this beauty when it was listed on heritage as it had a special meaning to me -- It was the very copy I had signed on 10/31/10. Here we go, a chance to buy my 1st copy back, then unfortunately Stan passed a week before the auction ended, One lucky consigner got crazy prices during the auction and I was not letting go of this one. When the hammer stopped I had paid a crazy price for it and gladly so. View Comic

Stan Lee CGC Signature SeriesSignature 9.8 Highest Graded SS, 1st full appearance of Wolverine. This copy is the very first Hulk #181 SS to achieve 9.8 with Stan's John Hancock. by 2 1/2 years. I waited until I found the right candidate. Deep Colors, Crisp edges and of utmost importance, perfect centering. Perfect Centering was a must as there are way to many off centered 181's out there.. Eye appeal was crucial and I did not want a 1/8th or 1/4 inch white boarder on the spine. For a book this special, it had to be perfect. Stan was provided a fine tip sharpe for this book and he nailed it. The final result was a crisp & clear signature located just above the action of both characters and below the title of the book. It's a signature representative of both characters and currently resides in a new CGC 9.8 holder featuring Stan's Likeness. I could not resist sending the previous slab in to CGC for the new holder and new Stan Label. Wolverine's first appearance. Nuff said! View Comic
