Set Description
A cool, fun and scarce set to collect. Many Issues do not exist with the 9d price variant. 9d copies on average remain 50 to 100 times scarcer than 12 cent US Versions. Both were produced during the same initial press runs, as a result, the issues are identical in every aspect including the indicia which actually reflects the 12 cent using pricing inside. Bother versions contain the exact same advertisements, interior and cover. The price & issue month are the only identifiable difference making the 9d, UK or "Pence copies" as some refer to them as, the only Price Variant available in Marvel's most significant franchise titles. This is what makes these price variants so cool to collect. The scarcity of these books often result in a mid grade copy being the highest graded copy. It is debatable which came first. 9d price variant's are generally darker which could indicate first press run. Proximity may have also necessitated running this version first due in order to ship to the United Kingdom ahead of time with the goal of mutual newsstand release dates.
All of that said, there are Notable issues that apparently were not produced for the UK, yet occasionally one will surface so this list may not be 100% accurate. Each main title has issues not produced, for ASM it is #'s 18,19,21-27,42,43,55-70,80,81,85,88-90,92,93, 103,108,111,112,114-118, 121 and up (naturally).
Ironically, it's as though foresight was predestined to avoid the best bronze age issues.
None of the following UK copies exist. ASM #121,122,129, Hulk 181, X-men #94, M Spotlight #5 etc
If anyone ever stumbles across one of these bronze age keys, please let me know I would love to pick one up. We will continue to chip away with these missing issue with the goal of completing the set.
