Set Description
Synopsis: This Flash set was our first to top the census in 2011. It contains all 250 issues, with 242 highest graded examples.
Background: The greatest Flash collection in existence, containing every issue from ##105-350 plus the four Showcases that preceded the run. Certainly this is the collection Sheldon Cooper would covet. The highlights of this collection are 30 single highest graded issues, as of September 2019, starting with #106. There are, however, a few notable holes, such as Showcase #13, and Flash #109, #121, and #172, just to name a few. If you have any of those books or any other that would constitute an upgrade to ours and would like to explore a sale, please drop us a line via CGC and we will get right back to you.
As an aside, it is disappointing to us that CGC places such a low value on Silver Age Flashes. While this is easily our best set in terms of highest graded issues, it ranks only third in registry points, trailing two sets with far fewer highest graded issues and, in one case, a set that only ranks fourth in the registry. There are few covers more beautiful than those of the early Silver Age Flashes and these books are clearly underrated by CGC.
2021 Update: There actually has not been a lot of change in the census in these books of late. Nor have we been buying any books, as none of the books we covet have come on the market. This is still far and away our favorite DC run, as the books lack the silliness of many Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman covers and plots, which often seemed obsessed with the character’s secret identities and imaginary stories-admittedly, all books are fiction, but Flash does a better job of staying within the parameters of the world created by the writers. Once again, I believe these books are seriously undervalued by both the registry and the collecting world, no DC book is better drawn.
Scratch everything I said above, as in the course of a couple of days we lost our two earliest single highest graded issues. I certainly never saw that one coming, as neither of the books in question, which changed the census, have appeared yet on the market. Very Depressing.....
