Set Description
Synopsis: We currently own 60 of the 63 books in this set with a minimum grade of 9.0. Six of our books are single highest graded examples.
Background: This is a starter set for sure, but it is a relatively short run and the books seem to be around-except, of course, in high grades for those with black covers. Not sure how far we will take this one, but it does dovetail with our other JLA member collections.
Right now, some of the prices seem rather inflated, perhaps because DC finally made one movie that did not suck. I wish they would do that for GL and Flash, the prices there are certainly in the gutter.
We have not bought a #1 yet, as the prices there have really elevated for a book that is not rare by DC standards. At some stage, we will either go for one or sell these books.
2020 Update: Well, we did pick up a #1 9.6 this year at what was a decent price relative to recent sales. These are still by no means our favorite books and the collection has plenty of holes, but we are continuing to add when the price is right.
2021 Update: These books have not appeared much in the market during the past year, so we have not made much progress towards completing this set. We did pick up the sole #28 9.8 to upgrade our 9.4, but otherwise, not much to see here.
2022 Update: We picked up a #33 9.6, 54 9.6, and #58 9.6 this year so we now lack three issues. Issue #35 is the most expensive missing book because of the movie and high-grade examples have been few and far between of late. The other books we are missing should not be that expensive, but we just have not found them.
