Set Description
Talk about patience! It took me over 30 years to complete this small run of books. I’m not really known as an Atlas comics collector but way back in 1978 I walked into Bond Street Books in Hollywood California and saw that there was a small stack of Showgirls 1 sitting on the counter priced at $1 each. Seemed like a bargain so I picked through them and got the best copy I could find.
Fast forward to the early 90s, I had been looking for years for the other issues without any success. Finally in a Comic Heaven auction I saw a number two. Sight unseen I bid on it and won. I think I paid $8.
The next issue would prove to be even harder, for the longest time I thought there was a number three because the price guide said there was. There wasn’t. Eventually I found a completely beat up number four. I bought it off of eBay for about $35. It’s condition was extremely poor but it helped me at least for the moment complete my run .
A couple of years later perusing the for sale section in the boards a board member had a really pretty four, I immediately snatched it up at full price, my set was complete!
I slabbed my one and two and each of the three issues I own are the second highest grade in the census.
This has got to be the nicest complete run of this very short, scarce, and really awesome Dan DeCarlo series.
