An apparently symbiote-free Cletus Kassidy has been transferred to Ravencroft by a well intentioned, but ultimately naive doctor specializing in the study of serial killers. She certainly picked the right subject, at least until she put that needle in his arm and...Carnage was reborn! What ensued was not pretty...
Though it was the last reader copy I purchased, Spider-Man Unlimited #1 was the first SS 9.8 I acquired. It was first signed by artist Mark Bagley (on 5/24/2014), who unfortunately didn't work on this initial part of the Carnage story but rather the enthralling tale of Cardiac taking on some unscrupulous local builders and their shoddy materials. However, the case also arrived to me with a couple of cracks, leaving me the perfect excuse to send this off for cover artist Ron Lim's signature. And as you'll see, Mr. Lim added his signature to the cover on 10/25/2015.

Shortly before the Virginia Comic Con, I rolled the dice and snagged all three Web issues off of eBay. And as my set summary shows, the dice paid off big time. All three came back as SS 9.8s, signed by artist Alex Saviuk on 11/21/2015.

I guess the only unfortunate thing about this issue for a Signature Series collector is...what's the ideal signature spot? On this great cover from Sal Buscema, how do I keep from detracting from its appearance?

Top to bottom -- Venom, Iron Fist, Captain America, Deathlok. Does this clown not realize the level of Marvel royalty that he's screwing with? Apparently not.
While this particular copy isn't signed, ASM 380 seems to be a consistently in demand book, so it's good to acquire a 9.8.

Part 13 finds Carnage taking a commemorative self portrait, just in case this whole killing spree he's embarked on doesn't end well for him.
I started with an "only a 9.6", from James Bella (eBay seller comix4sale), signed by writer J.M. DeMatteis and artist Sal Buscema on 9/8/2013. BUT even though Sal B is tough to find these days...the 9.8s beckon. I picked this one up during a shopping excursion at WW Chicago and left it in good hands to be signed at the Baltimore Comic Con by the aforementioned Mr. DeMatteis on 9/3/2016.
