Comiclink auction win in September 2012-upgrading from my 9.6. A very common issue in high grade, with nine in 9.8 and thirty-two!!! in 9.6. Of course, this makes my copy tied for HIGHEST graded on the census. If you want this issue in high grade, you shouldn't have to wait very long.

Only two exist in 9.8 (and thirteen in 9.6) as of this writing. Even the Twin Cities copy is only a 9.6. I, myself, had won two 9.6's through comiclink at various times. However, in 2014, wwcomics put one up for sale which was graded 9.8, which I promptly purchased, giving me a copy tied with one other as the HIGHEST graded on the census. There are a lot of 9.6's, so HG is not a problem...but getting the top of the census WILL be a challenge!

Heritage auction win-Jul 24/11-This was a Twin Cities pedgiree win- a pedigree I have in some abundance. This copy is tied with ten others as third highest on the current census. Third highest you ask? Well, to be honest, a 9.8 did come up for auction in the Heritage May 2014 auction. Yes, I was aware of it. Yes, I did bid on it. So, you ask, why don't I have it in my collection instead of this lovely 9.4? Well, despite the fact there are two others in 9.8 grade, someone else apparently wanted this issue more than I did. "More than you did?" you ask. In this case, yes. I was happily bidding and got all the way up to the insane amount of $2,000 (yes, TWO THOUSAND!!!) and the existing bidder's secret bid was still higher. I had to tap out at this point - that's crazy money for an issue in this part of the run...with the likelihood of a few more 9.8's yet to be certified. I regret a few non-purchases (see JLA#3 for instance), but not this one. I'll wait patiently in this case and see what happens.

Ebay buy-it-now purchase (Oct 8/12). I was on Ebay at the time when DTA Collectible must have had a brand new batch of JLA's come in, because the JLA's were being listed in real time while I was on and as they came up, if I wanted that issue, I took it off the market immediately! I just don't see this issue pop up ever, so when this came up on Ebay I was all over it immediately. Of course, I can tell you that I didn't have to pay anywhere near $2K for this issue and there are only two 9.8's certified to date, making this tied for HIGHEST graded on the census and a MUCH better deal than whomever won the JLA#103 (no, I'm not bitter). There are only ten combined 9.6's and 9.4's on the census, so getting this issue in high grade will be a little harder than say an issue in the #80-#100 range.

Originally I won a 9.4 of this issue back in July 2011. It's not hard to get a 9.4 with sixteen of them out there. Getting a 9.8 is much more difficult with only 2 graded at that level to date. Comiclink put one up for auction in January 2015 - the first time I had seen one publicly - so I made sure to win it. Obviously this copy is then tied with one other as HIGHEST graded on the census. There are 25 graded 9.4 and above, so you shouldn't have to wait too, too long to find one.

Heritage auction win-Jul 24/11 - another Savannah pedigree - I believe I have more of this pedigree than any other (except for Twin Cities, as it turns out). This issue has come out for auction a few times in this condition, but only in the October 2012 Comiclink auction has it come in a 9.8. I bid on it...and lost (these things happen). I had won 7 books in that auction, so I just couldn't add this one in 9.8 or JLA#114 in 9.8 (although I do have that one in that condition as of this writing). Sometimes there are too many books to go after! My copy is tied with 19 others for second highest on the census, trailing 6 9.8's on the census. You have a 9.8? Let me know if you want to part with it!

I had won a 9.6 in a June 2011 comiclink auction, but I was able to make an Ebay purchase in 2012 to upgrade to a 9.8. Perhaps the easiest issue to get in high grade, with 13 in 9.8, 28 in 9.6 and 24 in 9.4. I can't imagine you'll have a problem get a top graded copy. My copy is tied for HIGHEST graded on the census.

Won a 9.6 back in January 2013 on Comiclink for $150. Fast forward a couple of years and found a 9.8 for sale on Ebay - made an offer and was able to upgrade to this 9.8, which is the single HIGHEST graded on the census, slightly ahead of 20 9.6's.

This is the Don/Maggie copy that I paid through the nose for in the Heritage November 2014 auction -through the nose!! Of course, this is a fairly black cover and it is the only 9.8 on the census, so I have the HIGHEST graded copy in existence! This is why it cost so much. I think that as the years pass by I'm more likely to go after the best copies when the come up because they don't do so all that often.

This issue is not a stranger to auctions, I have records of bids on this issue in three different Comiclink auctions - with me winning the 9.4 in 2012, but losing out on the 9.6 and 9.8 auctioned off two other times. Eventually, I got my 9.8 off of Ebay in May of 2012. With 7 9.8's on the census, my copy is tied for HIGHEST graded. It also means this is a more common book, with 24 more copies in 9.4/9.6.

On the same day I purchased the JLA#111 on Ebay, I picked up this one on Ebay as well. I've never even bid on another copy and this one is tied with two others for HIGHEST graded on the census. Ebay has/is still a good resource to find books - you may have to pay $$$, but in auctions you never know, you might be paying even more $$$$.

I have bids in 5 different comiclink auctions between May 2011 and August 2013 for 9.6 and 9.8 certified copies. I had won a 9.6 to begin with, but in one of the two comiclink auctions in 2013, both of which were for 9.8's, I managed to win 1 of them, giving me the HIGHEST graded copy on the census (tied with five others). There are 26 more certified as 9.6 or 9.4 - this should be a relatively cheap comic in HG.

In the crazy world of comic auctions, I had lost out on a 9.8 of this issue back in 2012 on Comiclink when my maximum bid of $575 was not enough to win the book. Go ahead to the Heritage auction in December 2015 and I win THAT 9.8 for $310.70! Saved over $300 by having to wait 3 years - works for me. There are only two other 9.8's, making my copy tied for HIGHEST graded on the census.

More high grade copies are available for JLA#116 than the prior issue. My copy is 1 of 4 tied for the HIGHEST graded copy on the census. I picked this up in the fall of 2012, but I can't say that 9.8's are readily available. That being said, with 11 9.6's and 16 9.4's on the census, you should find yourself a good copy in short order.

Only 17 certified copies on the entire census...and I haven't seen a 9.8 yet. I've gone from a 9.4 to a 9.6 on an Ebay purchase (1 of 6 in the grade - the second highest), but I still trail the two 9.8's on the census. I may have to find a raw copy and have it certified to get my 9.8...
