At a bus station in Phoenix, Arizona, young Verity Carlo is picking her marks when she spies a high-end palmtop PC in use by an anonymous businessman. Unknown to all, he's being tracked by someone, or something, in the guise of a black sports car.
Using a stolen ticket, Verity hops onto the same Los Angeles-bound coach as the businessman and while he's napping she lifts his palmtop. Helped along by a rancid bagel, Verity feigns illness and is left at the side of the road. The coach takes off, followed closely behind by two seemingly normal sports cars. Verity sticks out her thumb at the next car and is picked up by an intense young man, Hunter O'Nion, who is rather self-conscious about his last name. Hunter takes a sudden detour and the pair discover that Verity's coach has been run off the road by two sports cars. Everyone's okay, except that the businessman whose palmtop Verity stole is missing.
After lots of prodding by Verity, Hunter reveals that he's an internet alien conspiracy theorist tracking down reports of giant machines in the area. She just finishes a laugh at his expense when the two are scanned and attacked by a blue fighter jet.
Hunter's van is destroyed, but he and Verity are saved—by the smiling driver of a suspiciously well-armed ambulance...

Bot Con!!
San Diego, CA (August 22, 2005) Every year, the Transformers faithful attend BotCon, a Hasbro-sponsored convention, to discuss their beloved robots in disguise. This year, those fans are in for a special treat in the form of IDW Publishing’s The Transformers #0, which will be making its debut at the show. What’s more, the comic will feature a special cover designed and illustrated by Hasbro’s Brand/Marketing Creative Director Aaron Archer and his staff.

Introduction
The Transformers: Infiltration is the first in a line of miniseries by IDW Publishing set in a re-booted Generation 1 continuity. The series brings the Transformers' presence on Earth into the present day and places the "robots in disguise" concept firmly in the forefront of its narrative.
It is issues #0–6 in the IDW overarching "sub-numbering" (shown in later series by a number in an Autobot-sigil shaped shield beside the bar code on each issue—Stormbringer picks up with #7), and was originally published between October, 2005 and July, 2006.
The most immediate shift from original continuity is the nature of the Transformers' presence on Earth. In this continuity, there was no ancient starship crash, nor robots awakening from a four million-year slumber; the Autobots and Decepticons have arrived on Earth fairly recently and on purpose, operating undercover for at least four years. The story is told through the eyes of four main characters: Verity Carlo, a young drifter; Hunter O'Nion, a conspiracy theorist; Jimmy Pink, mechanic and Verity's net-friend; and Ratchet, a medic who puts his conscience over his mission.
The series quickly and consistently establishes a strong Cold War, cloak-and-dagger theme, where secrecy and rules of espionage are as important as, or perhaps even more than, vanquishing the enemy. Thundercracker and the Battlechargers attack the humans and Ratchet to retrieve data on a palmtop PC that might reveal their existence; Ratchet is arrested by Prowl for breaking cover to rescue the humans; both Autobot and Decepticon operations are small cells instead of full-fledged armies. Also, a third faction is at work: a secret human organization known only as the Machination which appears to be aware of the Transformers' presence on Earth and has its own plans, as yet unknown, for the robots. Finally, it becomes evident to the Autobots that the Decepticon operation is up to something unusual, and their new human allies may have a part in unraveling the mystery.
The series has taken an interesting and rather unique approach to the standard Transformers story: introducing only a few new characters with each issue. This enables each issue to focus on a small selection of leads (Ratchet, the humans and later Bumblebee) without overwhelming them and gives each issue space to explore their characters.
The series culminates in a battle between Starscream, who leads the Decepticons on Earth, and the recently arrived Megatron attempting to put his house in order. Their animosity seems to be a constant in any Transformers continuity!

Mechatopia.com shows Hunter O'Nion's recent theories regarding an invasion of Earth by alien mechanoids. And while his theories sound preposterous, he believes.
Verity Carlo and Hunter are speeding through the desert of Southern California inside an ambulance with a perpetually smiling, blond driver. Hunter realizes that not only were they being attacked by one of the disguised mechanoids Hunter has sought—but that the ambulance they're sitting in is also one of them.
Suddenly, two sports cars—one white, one black—join the jet in pursuit of the ambulance. The driver asks if the two humans can be trusted as the steering wheel and instrument panel transforms into a sophisticated holographic 3D map. The ambulance rams the cars and fires at them from hidden gun ports. Badly damaged, the cars end the chase, but the jet is still after them. The ambulance deploys a smokescreen and drives away.
Verity logs onto her palmtop and finds the fugitives a place to hide—the automotive workshop of Jimmy Pink in Riverside. Jimmy and the ambulance driver get to work on the repairs while Hunter and Verity have a chat. She reveals that she and Jimmy are both net-hikers, members of a community of drifters who use the Internet to maintain their mutual-assistance network.
Meanwhile, the jet and sports cars are back on patrol, but can't find their targets. They do have a lead on the palmtop signal; all they need is for someone to activate it again, which Hunter does covertly as he tries to discover the device's true origin.
Jimmy has finished the repairs to the ambulance, and marvels at its sophistication. Hunter then throws around accusations: the ambulance is an alien robot in disguise, Verity's palmtop is stolen and it's the very item that the jet and sports cars are trying to recover. He confronts the ambulance driver with a picture stored on the palmtop of a robot in mid-transformation. To Verity's surprise, the ambulance driver says that Hunter's theories are true. Sick of conspiracy paranoia, she takes the palmtop back from them and walks outside.
Within a second, she's back inside, babbling frantically about Decepticons. The garage door is explosively ripped from its mount, sending debris everywhere, and smothering the smiling ambulance driver. But suddenly he's in the driver's seat of the ambulance, demanding the three of them get in.
Too late. The side of the building is ripped away, revealing two giant robots—one black, one white—who demand they hand over the palmtop.

Synopsis: Issue #2
Confronted by two menacing robots, the stunned Verity Carlo, Hunter O'Nion, and Jimmy Pink can only stand and gawk as the ambulance driver disappears in a blaze of electricity. That blaze stuns one of the robots, sending it into the garage wall and scattering concrete everywhere. The ambulance itself transforms into a third giant robot, who shields the three humans from the rubble. As the white robot draws a weapon, the third robot deploys an ink spray, blinding his attacker, then transforms back into an ambulance once again and orders the three humans inside. As the ambulance peels out, Jimmy laments the destruction of his garage.
Back in the wilds of Arizona, a police detachment finds the dead body of the mustached businessman. He has no I.D., but one of the officers recognizes him and makes a phone call to a group of people in a boardroom to report the death. Behind them, the wall is adorned with a massive "M".
Traveling on a crowded freeway, the ambulance is once again picked up by the blue jet fighter and narrowly avoids a pile-up caused by the jet's sonic boom. This allows the two sports cars—who identify themselves as Runamuck and Runabout—to catch up, partially transforming to deploy weapons. According to the ambulance, this is a very disturbing sign, as Decepticons never break cover, let alone in such a brazen fashion.
In Oregon, Starscream and Blitzwing marvel at the ore that they have discovered. They anticipate refining more, and getting some kind of unfriendly response for breaking protocol.
Some more fancy driving allows the ambulance to shake Runamuck and Runabout. Verity, who on top of fleeing for her life has had reality turned upside down on her, screams for them to stop and jumps out.
While Jimmy goes to calm her down, Hunter tries to pry more detail out of the ambulance—starting with its name, Ratchet—but before he can get far, the jet re-acquires them. With everyone back inside, Ratchet pours on a burst of speed. In the middle of the desert, three more cars with weapons that spring from hidden compartments appear in their path and shoot the plane down. These cars then transform, draw weapons, and the leader informs Ratchet of the statutes of the Autobot Code of Interplanetary Conflict that he has violated. In his defense, Ratchet offers only two words: Siege Mode...

That blaze stuns one of the robots, sending it into the garage wall and scattering concrete everywhere. The ambulance itself transforms into a third giant robot, who shields the three humans from the rubble. As the white robot draws a weapon, the third robot deploys an ink spray, blinding his attacker, then transforms back into an ambulance once again and orders the three humans inside. As the ambulance peels out, Jimmy laments the destruction of his garage.
Back in the wilds of Arizona, a police detachment finds the dead body of the mustached businessman. He has no I.D., but one of the officers recognizes him and makes a phone call to a group of people in a boardroom to report the death. Behind them, the wall is adorned with a massive "M".
Traveling on a crowded freeway, the ambulance is once again picked up by the blue jet fighter and narrowly avoids a pile-up caused by the jet's sonic boom. This allows the two sports cars—who identify themselves as Runamuck and Runabout—to catch up, partially transforming to deploy weapons. According to the ambulance, this is a very disturbing sign, as Decepticons never break cover, let alone in such a brazen fashion.
In Oregon, Starscream and Blitzwing marvel at the ore that they have discovered. They anticipate refining more, and getting some kind of unfriendly response for breaking protocol.
Some more fancy driving allows the ambulance to shake Runamuck and Runabout. Verity, who on top of fleeing for her life has had reality turned upside down on her, screams for them to stop and jumps out.
While Jimmy goes to calm her down, Hunter tries to pry more detail out of the ambulance—starting with its name, Ratchet—but before he can get far, the jet re-acquires them. With everyone back inside, Ratchet pours on a burst of speed. In the middle of the desert, three more cars with weapons that spring from hidden compartments appear in their path and shoot the plane down. These cars then transform, draw weapons, and the leader informs Ratchet of the statutes of the Autobot Code of Interplanetary Conflict that he has violated. In his defense, Ratchet offers only two words: Siege Mode...

Aboard the Autobot starship Ark-19, located at the bottom of Lake Michigan, Prowl gives Ratchet a thorough dressing-down for disobeying his orders and breaking cover, then tells him to find out just what's on Verity Carlo's stolen palmtop and to get rid of the humans, refusing Ratchet's suggestion that Prowl alert Optimus Prime. Ratchet reminds them that regardless of whether or not the Decepticons are acting under orders or have gone rogue, it's only a matter of time before Megatron arrives. Fortunately, his pleas do not fall on deaf audio sensors, as Ironhide listens intently.
Ratchet appears to Verity, Hunter O'Nion, and Jimmy Pink in their containment cell and persuades Verity to hand the palmtop over. He shows them the mysterious businessman's photos and explains that they show a Decepticon Command Bunker, mysteriously abandoned (which Decepticons never do) and apparently in Siege Mode much too early for standard Decepticon procedure. While this is going on, Ironhide finishes sending a pulsewave to Autobot command, for Optimus Prime's optics only.
In the meantime, a police officer is investigating the dead body found on an Arizona reservation, tracking him to a caravan park—just as a pair of war-planes, one black, one purple, appear out of thin air and destroy the dead man's caravan before promptly disappearing again. Later, an Abrams battle tank destroys the remains of Jimmy Pink's garage, then transforms into the purple plane and along with the black one disappears yet again. Finally, the coach which Verity and the dead man traveled on is destroyed.
Verity, Hunter and Jimmy insist that Ratchet take them to the Decepticon bunker in Nebraska so that they can locate the proof Ratchet needs to persuade Prowl of the severity of the situation. Partially swayed, Ratchet makes his mind up when Bumblebee offers to help out. The three humans and two Autobots make their way to Nebraska—just as the Decepticon lieutenant Starscream orders Skywarp and Blitzwing to destroy the bunker...

Synopsis: Issue #4
A young Verity Carlo meets with a guidance counselor after running away from yet another foster home. The counselor dismisses Verity's tough facade, stating that all she sees is a young girl "in a world of hurt".
Verity, Hunter O'Nion, and Jimmy Pink explore the abandoned Decepticon Command Bunker in Nebraska on behalf of Ratchet and Bumblebee. The two Autobots are reluctant to risk the humans, but Bumblebee ultimately justifies the three as expendable at this point.
In Dallas, Texas, Drake meets with the leadership of the Machination at the Epsilon Holdings building. Drake is assigned a team and told to investigate the recent Decepticon activities and hunt down the robots. They desire to "appropriate" Cybertronian technology, and have discovered the location of Ark-19 under the lake via the SM-40's homing signal.
At the Decepticon Command Bunker, Verity wanders around, discovering a stasis tube. Inside, she discovers a months-old human corpse in military uniform and almost has a nervous breakdown, but composes herself and moves on. Topside, the waiting Bumblebee and Ratchet are suddenly confronted by Skywarp and Blitzwing, who pay no heed to the Autobots and bomb the base. The Autobots order the humans to evacuate the base, but Verity ignores their concern and explores deeper into the base. Forced into battle, Bumblebee is able to shoot down Skywarp, his processor speed outmatching the Decepticon's, but Ratchet is taken out by Blitzwing in his tank mode.
Underground, Verity discovers that they are not alone in the Bunker as she comes face to face with Megatron himself.
