I had been watching a seller with the #2, #3, and #20 comics on eBay for the better part of a year, but the price was just too high to pull the trigger. I had even purchased some raw NM+ copies of 3 & 20 to get ready to send in for grading, when the seller abruptly lowered the price on the #3. I asked for an even lower price, and offered to buy all 3 slabs at once. Obviously, the product was a bit stale from his perspective, so he bit! I instantly had 3 more 9.8s to add to the collection! The front end of this run is starting to look pretty solid!

Ah yes, the first appearance of Killer Frost in volume 2. While I started reading this comic with the very first book in the volume, this (and the subsequent issue with the Justice League) is what cemented my endearment with the character forever. A great 2-part storyline with arguably Firestorm's biggest rogue, and a fun run in with Superman. I was hooked.
So this is where it all began for me, and I always knew I needed to get this book in 9.8. Now I've got it, and I'm absolutely thrilled.

This was one of the first 9.8s that I was able to secure at a reduced price on an eBay auction. One of the perks of being a huge fan of a character that isn't as much in demand as say, Spider-Man, is that it's not financially unreasonable to think that I can get the entire series run in 9.8.

Here's where looking for one comic to add to your collection can lead you to another. I had been looking for a Firestorm (1978) #5 in 9.8 grade to complete my Volume 1 collection. My search led me to a site with this book and a few others slabbed and graded by CGC as a 9.8. I was thrilled to come across the site, as it had 9 different Firestorm books in 9.8 grade that I didn't have, 6 of which I couldn't find anywhere else! As of this writing, I'm still looking for that elusive Firestorm 5 9.8, but I have filled several other gaps in my collection!

This was the very first non #1 book that I pursued for Firestorm. I got an absolute ridiculous deal on it, and honestly, I only went after it because of how cheap it was. But I'm glad I did, as this started the avalanche of trying to grab slabs of every book in the series, and the realization that it would actually be financially possible to do so.

Here's a book I had in my possession that I thought had a shot at a 9.8. I figured I'd send this in prior to paying for what has turned into a semi-key due to Plastique's appearance on the Flash TV show. Lo and behold, it sure enough did grade out to a 9.8! So much more gratifying to send books in and having them grade out at 9.8 as opposed to buying them in the secondary market.

My first attempt at a slab with this book resulted in a 9.0. That's obviously nowhere near good enough when you're shooting for 100% 9.8s through the entire run, so it was only a matter of time before I gave it another shot. I found this book raw in a huge Firestorm lot on sale, and had to grab the whole thing. I thought I'd get a 9.8, but happy to move up to a 9.6. Now I can pursue other books I don't have yet, and swing back around to this one a little later.

I picked up this book in another eBay auction, but this was more of a 2nd wave purchase. Not as good of a deal as some of my first purchases in this collection, but good enough to pull the trigger. If you love Firestorm, and you love Pat Broderick's art, then this is cover is where it's at! Although Killer Frost has received more attention in recent years, Multiplex was Firestorm's first arch-nemesis (after all, he was born from the same accident that gave Firestorm his powers), and I always thought he was a tougher and more complex match-up for Firestorm. I absolutely love this cover, and am thrilled that I secured it for my collection.
