issue #1 is one of the significant Silver Age Keys. Introduced the same month as Avengers #1, they gave the comic public (translation, all us geeks) two new super-groups to follow in the Marvel Universe. Issue #1 not only introduces Charles Xavier, Professor X, Cyclops (Scott Summers), Iceman (Bobby Drake), Beast (Hank McCoy), Angel (Warren Worthington III) and Marvel Girl, Jane Grey, it also introduces the Doctor Doom of the X-Men, Magneto, whose origins are more interesting than any of the good guys.
Obviously, all of these characters have been introduced multiple times to the movie goers who never read the books. Significantly, Professor X has been played by Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy, while Magneto has been played by Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender.
There are 67 books in the census graded higher than our current copy, which we bought with a package of books from High Grade Comics back in the early 2000s for $5,800. If I just knew then what I know now LOL. We hope to upgrade it in the not too distant future, but how high we will go remains to be seen.

Second appearance of the X-Men as they battle the Vanisher, Telford Porter. This 9.6 is the second highest graded and one of the top 8 graded overall out of over 1,600 books certified by CGC. It also has white pages. Acquired in the 8/11/2015 Pedigree Comics auction.

X-Men #3 features the origin and first appearance of the Blob, Frederick J. Dukes-not to be confused with the Blob of Steve McQueen fame. He sure seemed more intimidating here than he did in his mover debit in X-Men Origins, where he was played by Kevin Durand. That is one of my complaints about the X-Men movies, they shortchanged many of the evil mutants, especially Blob and Juggernaut. (I just pretend like X-Men 3 never happened, which it seems Marvel does as well LOL.)
Hopefully, we will upgrade this issue soon, as there are eight 9.6s and six 9.8s in the census.

Issue #9 features the first meeting of the avengers and the X-men, two superhero teams who Marvel introduced in the same month in 1963. I still have the original copies of both, which I acquired on the Square in Oxford, Mississippi. We acquired this copy of Issue #9 in the 2/23/2011 CL auction. As of this writing, it is one of three highest graded copies.

issue #12 features the first appearance of the Juggernaut, Cain Marko, along with the origin at Professor X. It is thus probably the most coveted issue outside the first five issues and high grade examples always command a hefty price. Our 9.6 is tied with nine others for second highest graded trailing a pair of 9.8s. We acquired the book in the December 2020 ComicConnect Auction.
