The one that started it all ... a completely revamped "Teen Titans" series featuring some classic kids, Robin, Kid Flash and Wonder Girl, an obscure kid, Beast Boy (Changeling) from the old Doom Patrol series, and 3 entirely new characters, Cyborg, Raven and Starfire (a hot alien as opposed to the old Starfire, who was a dude from the USSR). What's not to like? It was an instant hit, but this key first appearance was buried in DC Comics Presents, which was often used to premier new series back in the day. I acquired this book through eBay, and this copy is a super-rare triple signature series, signed by Marv Wolfman on 4/2/11, and George Perez & Jim Starlin (cover artist) on 4/16/11. Features the First App. New Teen Titans, Raven, Cyborg & Starfire. Purchased on eBay in May 2011. The jewel of my collection!

Other than the fact that it is the start of this series, which I love, you need not look further than the cover for my favorite part of this book. Classic art work with all the Titans coming right at you! White cover was often miscut along right edge, so sorta hard to find in high grade, but it was a first issue, so at least there were lots of copies out there. This copy is triple signature series signed by writer Wolfman (on 7/24/09) as well as artist Perez and series contributor Dick Giordano (both on 6/19/09). Purchased from rasmus2, but signatures acquired by par2ch.

Every superhero, or superhero team, needs a good villain. The NTT likely got the best villain of the 1980's (sorry Venom) with the first appearance of Slade Wilson, Deathstroke the Terminator, in this issue. Funny thing is, while Slade appears on the cover of this issue, he is the shadow in the background. The featured baddie on the cover is Slade's son, who is killed in this issue - - talk about motivation for revenge! This book is from my personal collection, but the signatures (both Wolfman and an artist's signatures from Perez) were obtained by par2ch at Megacon on 3/12/10. BTW, SS books, which are required to be signed under the watchful eye of a CGC rep, are totally undervalued, particularly when you don't even know how high the book will grade out after it is signed. I would rather have a SS book than a 9.9 book (or better yet, both!); First App. Deathstroke the Terminator.

First appearance of some of my favorite NTT villains, the Fearsome Five. Very hard to find in high grade. Trust me, I owned the first 3 CGC 9.8's, but I kept the best one with WP. First App. Fearsome Five, Gizmo, Mammoth, Shimmer & Psimon. The first two CGC 9.8's did not have those first appearances on the grader notes, but I personally got that fixed through CGC. Thank you, as always, titanstower.com, which is a great, mostly accurate spot for all Titans trivia. And I mean ALL Titans trivia (I thought that I was a fan ... but that webmaster is THE fan). This book was graded raw from my personal collection, but the signatures (both Wolfman and Perez) were obtained by par2ch at Megacon on 3/12/10.

Love the cover - how can you not like a team-up with the JLA and the NTT. As with No. 3, this book used to be impossible to find in high grade. With a white front cover that had a dark ad on the inside that bled through, and a black back cover that would mark the adjacent white front cover when the books were stacked. Yikes! This book was purchased from a Heritage Auction Galleries auction, but the signatures (both Wolfman and an artist's signatures from Perez) were obtained by par2ch at Megacon on 3/12/10.

The first cover with the NTT team in action - - tremendous! Note that Cyborg is kinda getting his butt whooped, at least for a moment, so you can sense the drama even before you open the book. Plus, note that the artwork is fairly traditional for the first 9 pages, small panels telling the story, then Trigon takes up the entire page 10 - - to make him seem powerful and ominous no doubt. Engaging story told, at least in part, through the art itself. Nice! Is it just me, or is Kid Flash giving Trigon a head butt to the groin on page 16 . . . I guess that's some worthless trivia. Purchased at same Heritage Auction Galleries auction that I purchased the No. 4, but the signatures (both Wolfman and Perez) were obtained by par2ch at Megacon on 3/12/10.

Tough, tough book to find in high grade due to the black cover. But even if you only have a reading copy, note how well NTT combined a good story (there is A LOT of dialogue in this book) with great action, eventually leading to the defeat of Trigon. Raven's dad, Trigon, is defeated, in part, by Raven's mom. I think that Raven is going to have some commitment issues ... From my good friend thejnich.

Titans Tower revealed! And it's awesome, even though a "T" shaped superhero headquarters on a very small island next to a major city is ridiculous, even for a comic book world. A day in the life story - - but not as filler for this series, but to make these characters real. We meet Wonder Girl's wimpy boyfriend (later husband) for the first time. Return of the Terminator at the end of this story. That didn't take long - - I suspect that Wolfman and Perez knew that they had a good thing with old Slade to bring him back so soon. Great NTT vs. a room full of evil toys fight scene at end of story.
