Synopsis: At a bar in Washington, D.C., Jessica watches a Steven Keaton campaign ad, including footage of George W. Bush meeting with various superheroes while being accused of ""pacifying the special interests of...the elite and famous"" and ""having his ear bent by aliens, mutants and"" ""people hiding behind masks and shadows."" While commentators on the television argue over the positive and negative aspects of the President's relationship with the powered community, Jessica realizes that she was set up to video tape Captain America's secret identity in order to damage the President of the United States. Eventually the political argument frustrates Jessica to the point that she inadvertently shatters a shot glass in her bare hand, and when the bartender sees that her palm is uninjured, he threatens her with a baseball bat, calling her ""mutant sh*t"" and forcing her to leave.
Jessica walks down the street to Keaton's campaign office, where she finds the blonde woman who hired her to find Miranda Pritchett working. The woman spots her and flees to the alley behind the building, attempting to make a phone call before she spots Jessica again, dropping down from a neighbouring rooftop into the alleyway. The woman faints, and Jessica finds her cellphone dialing ""Lawson, Daviano.""
Jessica visits the law office of Lawson, Daviano & Silver where she confronts David Lawson, accusing him of hiring her through a third party and demanding to know why. Lawson threatens to call the police, but Jessica calls his bluff by telling him that she has a story of her own to tell the authorities. She leaves, and stakes out Lawson's car in the parking lot, waiting for the lawyer to contact the person who hired him with the intention of following him after he does. While she waits, she receives a phone call from Matt Murdock informing her that the NYPD has dropped its investigation into her based on the autopsy results on Miranda Pritchett. He explains that ""the bruises and indentations on the neck of the dead girl were those of a large man,"" ruling Jessica out as a suspect.
As Jessica listens to Murdock, a man with very large hands approaches the driver's side door of her car. Jessica disconnects with Murdock, and is promptly ripped from the car and thrown onto its roof by a mountainous man who attempts to strangle her.

Synopsis: Jessica's assailant, Michael ""Man Mountain"" Marko, attempts to strangle her, but she brutally boxes his ears, forcing him to drop her, and punches him in the crotch. Jessica proceeds to beat Marko savagely while demanding to know who hired him, and though Marko refuses for a time, he eventually relents.
On a golf course, Mr. Zoumas discusses a film project with his assistant moments before Marko's body lands on the fairway in front of him. Zoumas' bodyguards draw their weapons as Jessica approaches, but Zoumas orders them to stand down so that he and Jessica can talk. He tells Jessica that she ought to sell the tape she made, and explains that his motivation in tricking Jessica into making the tape was so that she would ""give up the flag boy to the press.""
Zoumas explains that he and his associates had financed the President's campaign, but that the President had failed to fulfill his ""moral debts."" Zoumas tells Jessica that creating a scandal by exposing Captain America is simply a way of ensuring that the President is not re-elected, instead being replaced by Steven Keaton, ""who does understand who and what [he is]."" He then threatens that if Jessica either withholds the tape from the public or attempts to implicate him in the death of Miranda Pritchett, he will destroy her reputation in front of the media before having her killed in her sleep.
Jessica realizes that confronting Zoumas had been a mistake moments before she receives a phone call from Clay Quartermain, who instructs her to leave the scene immediately. He explains that Jessica has been unknowingly wearing a wire since she left the Pritchett crime scene, and Jessica watches a S.H.I.E.L.D. helicopter descend on the golf course to apprehend Zoumas.
After returning to New York City, Jessica watches a press conference on TV in which Keaton resigns from the Presidential race, crushing the wire that Quartermain placed on her. Moments later, she receives a visit from Steve Rogers, who requests the video tape. Jessica hands the tape over, and Rogers realizes that he had met Jones previously at Avengers Mansion. When he asks why she gave up the work of a superhero, Jessica explains that she never felt like she had the ability to inspire the public like the rest of the Avengers. Rogers counters that she protected him when he needed it most, unlike most people, and tells her to contact him if needs anything or decides to ""try again.""
Rogers suggests that Jessica call Carol Danvers, then leaves as Jessica takes his advice.

Synopsis: Jane Jones explains to Jessica that she married Rick six months prior, and that while he has been away for extended periods, he has never gone missing for several weeks at a time. Jane claims that Rick always spoke highly of Jessica, even though Jessica claims that she doesn't remember being related to Rick Jones, but Jessica agrees to look into the matter.
Alone, Jessica considers the difficulty of tracking down a man with the name Rick Jones. She then calls her mother to ascertain whether she has any relatives named Richard, and winds up in an argument after learning that her mother recalls no Rick Joneses in their family.
Jessica visits a bookstore to pick up a copy of Jones's memoir, Sidekick. She heads to a park to read, but is approached by a girl claiming to be able to see ""an aura"" indicating that Jessica has ""powers."" One of Amy's friends tries to pull her away before spotting Jessica's book and ranting about how Rick Jones ""doesn't shut up."" Jessica learns that Rick is known as a song-writer who performs at a bar called Ultimate, and leaves the park after confirming to Amy that she does, in fact, have powers.
That evening, Jessica visits Ultimate and continues to read Rick's book before he performs his set to thunderous applause. Synopsis: Confronting Rick Jones in the alley behind Ultimate, Jessica insists that she is neither a Kree nor a Skrull, and explains that Rick's wife hired her to find him. Jessica tries to convince Rick to talk to Jane in order to calm her down, but a backfiring car causes him to panic and flee. Jessica manages to catch up to him, and he explains that since the Kree-Skrull War, he is considered ""a war criminal"" with ""a bounty on [his] head.""
Jessica suggests going straight to Avengers Mansion, but Rick refuses, claiming that Captain America is angry with him for publishing Sidekick. Jessica compromises by suggesting they visit Reed Richards at the Baxter Building, and Rick finally agrees.
The next morning, Jessica and Rick arrive at the Baxter Building, but fail to get inside when the robotic secretary refuses them entry because they did not have an appointment. Synopsis: Having lost track of Rick Jones in the crowded New York City pedestrian traffic, Jessica calls the Avengers Mansion emergency hotline and leaves a message explaining Rick's situation. She walks back to her office, and calls Jane, leaving a message with her as well. She then logs onto the Internet to find a chat message from the husband of her other client, seeking to set up a meeting at a local Starbucks. She confirms the rendezvous, then checks her email, but promptly falls asleep at her desk.
Jessica wakes some time later to hear a man in her office answering her phone again. She wakes and overhears him speaking with Jarvis; she takes the phone from him, and discovers that the real ""Rick Jones is safe and sound in Los Angeles."" Jarvis informes her that the Avengers are aware of ""a young man in the West Village area who fancies the idea of calling himself Rick Jones,"" and Jessica realizes that the man she has been trying to help is an impersonator. After Jessica hangs up, the man in her office introduces himself as Malcolm, and asks for a job, but Jessica orders him out again.
Jessica visits the park again to find Jane and Rick Jones reunited and happy, and Jane thanks Jessica profusely for finding her husband. Jessica leaves the two and heads to Starbucks, waiting for her other client's husband, Dr. Curtis Moss. He arrives, and Jessica converses with him as a stranger, learning that he is a psychotherapist. She asks about the strange case of the fradulent Rick Jones, which he explains is a case of pseudologia fantastica, in which people tend to believe outrageous lies because ""they just want to know famous people."" Jessica thanks Moss for answering her question, and then advises him to go home and come out of the closet so that he can stop hurting his wife.
Moss hesitates, then leaves, and Jessica thinks back to the night before, when she and Rick visited a diner before heading to the Baxter Building. Jessica had told Rick that his memoir resonated with her because she, like him, used to have physical reactions in the presence of super-powered individuals, and that she, like him, understood that reaction to mean that she was not meant to participate in the world of costumed superheroes. She had told him that she was relieved ""to meet someone in the same freaky boat that [they've] been in.""
At Starbucks, Jessica ruminates on something that Dr. Moss told her: ""The peasants want the kings to come down and play.""

Synopsis: Jessica commutes to Lago, New York, passing a sign that reads ""REBECCA, PLEASE COME HOME. WE LOVE YOU.""
In town, Jessica looks for Miller Street. She finds no help, but discovers a newspaper with an article on the front page advertising the fact that she has been hired to come to Lago in order to investigate the disappearance of ""missing girl Rebecca Cross."" She encounters the town's sheriff, Sean, who gives her directions to the Cross residence, and heads there to meet with Rebecca's mother and aunt.
Rebecca's mother explains that she left on the night of April 13th to play church bingo, and can't be sure that Rebecca was home at the time, nor that she was home the next morning or that she ever went to school on the 14th. She also expresses suspicions about her husband, who she claims ""goes to whores"" and leered at his own daughter, before giving Jessica a scrapbook of photographs of Rebecca.
Jessica visits the home of Rebecca's father, Edward Cross, who claims that his wife is trying to put him in jail. He denies killing or ever molesting his daughter, and insists that he was only ever proud of Rebecca because he was sure that she would be better than the rest of them. He then leaves the house, giving Jessica permission to search it, and she examines several rooms before finding Rebecca's bedroom, in which several posters of costumed superheroes (including Elektra, Daredevil and the Punisher) have been hung.
Inside she finds Rebecca's collage books, as well as the girl's stash of marijuana, before her search is interrupted by Sean, who chastizes Jessica for not coming to see him before launching her investigation. The two leave the house, and Jessica admits that she does, in fact, possess super powers. She then explains that she wants to visit Rebecca's high school next, and promises to meet with Sean afterwards.
At Lago High School, Jessica is escorted to Rebecca's locker by the school secretary. She finds another picture of Daredevil inside, but another student draws her attention back to the front of the locker door, where she finds the word DIE scrawled out. The student explains that the threat was due to the fact that Rebecca was a mutant.

Synopsis: Jessica learns from a Lago High School student that Rebecca Cross was a mutant, and discovers that a decidedly anti-mutant sentiment pervades the town. She quickly tracks down student Freddy Thompson, who began spreading the rumour that Rebecca was a mutant, and learns from him that Rebecca told him so herself when he flirted with her, claiming that ""her mutant powers would kill"" him if they had sex.
On her way to her car, Jessica is approached by local journalist Patrice Pugawa, who is desperate for updates on the investigation. Jessica refuses to divulge details, claiming that if someone did something to Rebecca, publishing information on the investigation would give the perpetrator the chance to cover his tracks. Patrice asks if Jessica means to attend church on Sunday, and Jessica admits that she likely will not, though Patrice says that she ""really should.""
Jessica reads through one of Rebecca's collage books before meeting with Sean at Tom's Bar. They further examine the books, and the sheriff notes Rebecca's fondness for Daredevil before asking Jessica what her ""mostest f*cked up case"" was. The conversation is interrupted by Rebecca's father, who accuses Jessica of trying to ruin his life, but Sean manages to calm Mr. Cross down. Outside, Jessica and Sean kiss, and Jessica makes drunken advances until Sean hesitantly finally relents.
In her drunken stupor, Jessica dreams of her time as the costumed superhero Jewel and an encounter she had with Thor, but she sees Rebecca in a high window of a skyscraper and the dark shadow of a man looming behind her.
On Saturday morning, Jessica wakes in a cell at the Lago police station and is released by Sean. Jessica leaves the station and spots the town's church, recalling that Patrice told her that she ""really should"" attend. She puts him off as she spots Patrice Pugawa through a window at the office of the Lago Observer.
Jessica heads into the office, and Patrice lets her read some of the anti-mutant hate-mail that the newspaper has received as evidence of the town's pervasive bigotry. Jessica apologizes for having previous brushed Patrice off, and learns that the townspeople of Lago adore the preacher at their church, as well as a horrific story of a young boy died after he was savagely beaten with beer bottles a few years previously because of a rumour that he was a mutant. Patrice explains to Jessica that Rebecca was not, in fact, a mutant, and that her classmates had spread the rumour because ""she dressed different – she behaved different."" Jessica shows Patrice the collage books that Rebecca made, and when she explains that she still wants to talk to Rebecca's father, Patrice admits that half of Lago thinks he is guilty.
Later, Jessica visits the home of Edward Cross to him stabbed to death in the chair in his living room. In the background, a commentator on television discusses the recent rumours that Matthew Murdock is the vigilante Daredevil, and laments the fact that ""we as a society have this compulsive need to hurt those who would protect us.""
That evening, Jessica watches Sean coordinate the crime scene as Mr. Cross's body is removed from his house. Sean points out a teenage bystander to Jessica, and she asks him where Rebecca is.

Synopsis: At a bar in a neighbouring town, Rebecca Cross is alive and well and explaining her adoration for the vigilante Daredevil before reading a poem that she wrote in his honour. Jessica watches the performance, after which she witnesses Rebecca kiss a girl before both of them spot her. Jessica hauls Rebecca from the bar, throwing off the bouncer and peeling out of the parking lot.
On the car ride back to Lago, Rebecca laments having to live ""in that racist sh*thellhole"" surrounded by bigotry and ignorance. She promises that as soon as Jessica drops her off and leaves, she will run away once again because she refuses ""to sit tight and 'bide [her] time',"" claiming that ""life is too f*cking short to live in a town like"" Lago. The conversation is interrupted when Jessica receives a call from Murdock, who asks her to stop by his office the next morning. Jessica agrees, and Rebecca is dumbfounded that Jessica knows Matt Murdock.
Jessica drives Rebecca past the sign outside town reading ""REBECCA, PLEASE COME HOME. WE LOVE YOU."" and returns to the home of Rebecca's mother where she finds Sean arresting Rebecca's aunt while Pugawa attempts to interview her. Rebecca rushes through the crowd to her mother, who promptly slaps Rebecca, calls her a ""selfish whore,"" and blames her for her father's death before Rebecca flees the scene.
Jessica eventually finds Rebecca hiding in the bell tower of the town's church, and the two discuss the death of Rebecca's father and the unfortunate state of the world before Jessica offers to drive Rebecca back to her girlfriend. Later, Jessica meets with Sean, explaining that Rebecca's girlfriend had already arrived in Lago looking for Rebecca, and receives a check from Sean cajoled Rebecca's mother into writing. Jessica learns that Katherine Cross admitted to murdering Ed Cross, and returns Rebecca's collage books to Sean before heading out of town.
On the ride back to New York City, Jessica receives another call from Scott Lang, and asks him to ""keep [her] company [on the] drive home.""

Synopsis: Natasha Romanov arrives at the Law Offices of Nelson and Murdock, passing by Jessica Jones and Luke Cage on her way into Matt Murdock's office. Jessica critizes Cage for his substandard ""bodyguarding"" abilities, and the two argue about the night that they had sex, and when Jessica calls Cage a ""cape-chaser,"" he responds by accusing her of being mad at herself. Finally, the two reconcile, discussing the likelihood that Murdock is Daredevil as Romanov leaves the office. Cage asks Jessica out, but she claims to have plans.
Later that night, Jessica meets Scott Lang for dinner, but when she orders a double vodka, he suggests that she not drink alcohol. Jessica agrees, but brings up Scott's time in prison, and he responds that he ""left a better person then when [he] went in and [he] never went back."" Jessica claims that Carol set them up because Scott is someone that Carol would have slept with had he not served time, and Scott admits to being divorced and having a daughter. The two discuss the difficulty of dating as superheroes, but their conversation is interrupted by Spider-Man and the Human Torch chasing Doctor Octopus down the street.
