I bought my first copy of this issue in 1997 or so. It was a reader copy that I got because of the Warpsmith cover, whom I knew from Miracleman. Unexpectedly, I found that there were several other stories I enjoyed, most notably "Bad Bread." Basically this is a story about a fungus, Ergot, that infested rye in the MIddle Ages. Ingesting toxins from the tainted rye flour resulted in mass hallucinations that were typically interpreted as religious in nature: visions of demons, hell, etc. I actually cited this story as a reference in an English paper some years later when I was writing on Dante, positing that his visualizations of the underworld could have been influenced by stories he heard from Ergot victims, or if he had ingested some himself.
