A great variant cover. When I first bought my copy, there was only “14” of these books shown graded on the CGC Census (7 graded at 9.8); now that number has grown to 24+ (with only 2 more added to the ranks of the 9.8 grade as of 11-9-2019). A popular book.
I also have a CGC graded 9.6 (#0243130021--it's the very 1st CGC book I ever bought).
*********************************
I don’t understand how CGC award “points” to a certain individual comic. I understand a signed copy, its age, and condition of the comic plays the most important role in determining a score; and yes, its scarcity plays a key role as well…but, with this issue? I know it’s a variant. But what make this issue worth 1,000 points? Is it the scarcity, the story? The art? Or is it the combine group of people who worked and produced the issue a factor? Maybe someday I’ll discover the answer. Regardless, I acquired it to complete my set (and I’m hoping to find a reasonable priced copy signed someday).

One of the "TRUE" rare "DARK" (black background coloring) variant printer error.
CGC currently doesn't know how to "Treat" these rarities.
I have other copies of this comic rated CGC 9.8 (#1561544020), CGC 9.6 (#1217690006--another with the rare "black" background), and CGC 9.0 (#0299697003) in my collection.
I acquired my 2 "Black background variants" copies before people began to take notice of the coloring differences.
I looked for the (Black) background variants because I thought it made the 3 figures of Gwen Stacey "pop-out" more from the cover--just my personal opinion.
In one universe, it wasn't Peter Parker bitten by the radioactive Spider, but Gwen Stacy! She's smart, charming and can lift a car-- Just don't tell her Police Chief father!

Synopsis for "Aaron Aikman: The Spider-Man:"
Aaron Aikman is one of the most prominent scientists at the Ikegami Medical Center and Research Institute. At the young age of 27 he has developed major contributions to the field of biology and chemistry, mostly derived from his experiments on insect venom. He applied one of his experiments, based on the Spider DNA, on himself as a test subject, gaining arachnid powers and becoming a hero to his city. After his first battle against a creature named Redeye, he became The Spider-Man, defending his city defeating all of his opponents until he met Naamurah who almost defeated him in their first encounter, warning him that "His World will Fall" as more like her will come and he will become their food.
While he works on upgrading his armor and web fluid to face-off against Naamurah again, he receives the visit of Dr. Kaori Ikegami, founder of the Institute he works and his first serious relationship, which came to be since Kaori's daughter Hannah suffered an accident that left her with irreversible brain damage. They both worked on developing a cure until Kaoir left to another facility, never seeing each other again until now. Kaori asks for Aaron's help which he rebuffs with the excuse of travelling to another meeting. She confronts him that he thinks she's stupid and doesn't care anymore about her daughter, making her flee in tears from the place. Aaron tries to catch her but decides to let her go and focus on his fight against Naamurah.
As Spider-Man patrols, his sensors detect the presence of Naamurah, but after saving its intended victim and clashing on the streets, he discovers that is someone similar to Naamurah, who calls himself Daarroh who also issues a warning to Spider-Man about his imminent end and that he won't stop them. Aaron realizes that he's actually one of Naamurah's kidnapped victims but before he can get more answers, Daarroh falls into a coma. Aaron brings him to the medical center, where the doctor relies his diagnosis, revealed to have been manipulated by a neural device, which she shows to Aaron, since it was something he worked before, making Aaron realize that Kaori is behind all of this.
When he arrives to confront her, she reveals that she knows he's Spider-Man and explains the truth to him: She became obsessed with saving her daughter after he told her to let her go, and after days of working Hannah revived but their encounter was short-lived as she suffered a breakdown and was suddenly possessed by something, which Aaron implies it was Naamurah. Kaori reveals that Hannah told her to build more devices and body armors for all of her victims who are now raiding the city in order to bring a start a new wave of kidnappings. Aaron runs to stop them, realizing that this is an invasion from another dimension, but he's suddenly stopped by a mysterious man who tells him that he is "The end of his story". As the last words of Naamurah's warning echoes, all of her creatures raid through the city while Aaron's fate is left ambiguous

Synopsis for "I Walked with a Spider"
Patton Parnel is a young teenager who acts in disturbed ways, such as incinerating ants and spying on his next-door neighbor and classmate Sara Jane, all the while being yelled at by his Uncle Ted. On a field trip of his school to the Alcorp Industries HQ, Sara Jane talks to him so she can get his help to uncover Alcorp's experiments on animals, even though her boyfriend, Gene, is picking on him.
While the excursion goes off, Sara Jane and Patton sneak into the laboratory, setting off the alarm once they step in. While Sara rushes trying to save the animals, Patton becomes mesmerized with a spider, ignoring the warning label indicating that it's a irradiated female spider. As he picks up the spider, she bites him on the hand, just as he and Sara Jane are caught by security. After being reprimanded, they're both allowed to leave, with Sara Jane inviting Patton to join her since he reveals that his parents are dead and his Uncle works at night. Once at home, Patton starts to feel sick and then he's confronted by his uncle, who yells at him and beats him with his belt. Later on, Patton searches for food, finding a mouse behind the door, eating it as he discovers that the spider somehow imbued him with its powers.
Patton starts hunting other animals as food, until his Uncle Ted comes home, discovering to his horror the house wrapped up with spider-webs. Patton states that it's dinner time before attacking his uncle. The next day, he resumes his normal life until he's confronted once again by Gene, who challenges him to a fight at lunchtime. Later, Patton meets a kid whose dog is missing, and tells the boy the dog is at his house, inviting him over. That evening, Patton researches about the spider species that bit him, discovering that their females lay their eggs through their bite.
Afterwards, Sara Jane visits him, asking him about Gene's whereabouts since he's not responding to her calls. Patton tells her she deserves someone better than Gene and then kisses her, only to bite her neck immediately afterwards.
Sara slaps him, revealing his mutated eyes and Patton sheds his skin, transforming into a new spider-like form. Sara tries to run away entering into his room only to discover to her horror lots of cocoons hanging from the ceiling, including one with the kid from earlier and his Uncle Ted tied up in his bed. Patton professes his "love" to Sara Jane, while hundreds of baby spiders emerge from Uncle Ted's body as he screams in pain. As Patton approaches Sara Jane, Morlun arrives and introduces himself as a "surprise dinner guest". As Patton attacks Morlun, Sara Jane takes advantage of the situation to escape. Morlun muses that Patton is a very young totem, but he will suffice as an appetizer, dismembering him and absorbing his life force.
The next day, Sara Jane, thinks that the whole ordeal was just a dream until she checks the bit mark on her neck and sees hundreds of baby spiders emerging from it.
