Frisco's First Corner Box Marvel Silver Set

Legendary artist/creator Steve Ditko, while working on the cover of Amazing Spider-Man #2, made an addition to the cover that would quickly be adopted throughout the entire line of Marvel Comics!!! Every genre of Marvel's line of comics would replace the circle price bubble with a distinctive "corner box" featuring the title character, cover price and name of the company! Although the design was first done on Spidey #2 (which was cover dated May 1963), there would be two Marvel comic books cover dated from the previous month and on the stands a week ahead of it; April cover dated Journey into Mystery #91 and Patsy Walker #106!!! The next month, all but two of the May cover dated Marvel comics had made the switch to the corner box. The two holdovers were from Marvel's western line, Kid Colt Outlaw #110 and Two-Gun Kid #63. Since comics were published on different schedules, it usually took a few months before design changes were completely implemented. The corner box was an incredible asset to Marvel's covers, as it would usually still be visible when comics were positioned on the newsstand racks and a buyer could easily identify the title just by seeing that small portion of the front cover!!! The instantly recognizable corner box also brought Marvel a very unified look to their covers, easily setting them apart from the competition!
