Amazing Spider-Man #347 features a classic Erik Larsen early Venom cover, which is an homage to William Shakespeare’s Hamlet!
Overstreet 2023 NM- 9.2 value = $40.
According to the CGC Census Report as of Tuesday, August 22, 2023, out of a total of 1,834 Universal copies graded, 406 copies were graded in 9.8 with 0 copies graded higher!
With these statistics in mind, this represents a rarity factor of 22.14% of the total population.

UNDER VALUE ALERT! ASM #347 is such a SLEEPER issue! I would like to emphasize this as only “1” example of how the CGC label notes affect a specific book in the marketplace!
What you are viewing is an homage cover to William Shakespeare’s Hamlet! Shakespeare is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world’s greatest dramatist! Furthermore, Hamlet is one of his most famous Shakespearean tragedies and the LONGEST play he has written! Now, how does this important historical information NOT get included on the CGC label notes?
On top of that, this is an early Venom cover appearance—only his 9th overall and only his “4th” cover appearance in which we see both his face and his body!
For reference, the following ASM issues feature the first 16 consecutive cover appearances of Venom: 315-317, 331-333, 345-347, 362-363, 374-375, and 378-380!
I am quite confident that if the CGC label notes included this KEY information, that more collectors would find ASM #347 more appealing!
I shared this historical information with the chief vintage comic book cataloguer of Heritage Auctions, and although they don’t normally take description edit suggestions from consignors, they actually incorporated my suggestions, as they said they are GOOD! As a result, Heritage Auctions incorporated many of my additional info suggestions within several of my auction listings!
In my honest opinion, Amazing Spider-Man #347 should be selling within the same price range as Amazing Spider-Man #316!
Moreover, Venom’s evolution from villain to antihero has taken deep roots amongst avid readers, which in turn, has increased Venom’s fan base throughout mainstream pop culture. With the success of Venom (2018) and the highly anticipated Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which is scheduled to premiere on October 15, 2021, demand for Venom’s earliest cover appearances will only continue to rise to new heights!
Although ASM #347 is not considered rare, as the combined total of Universal 9.6 and 9.8 copies equals more than half the total population on the CGC Census, this particular 9.8 copy is exceptional because it is PERFECTLY WRAPPED and CENTERED and contains PERFECT WHITE PAGES!
In addition, the book is perfectly cut, the staple placement is excellent and the color saturation is deep and bright as if it was printed yesterday!
In closing, I won this pristine beauty during a Pedigree Comics Grand Auction in May of 2021! I was ecstatic when I was notified as the winning bidder and I’m proud to showcase this immaculate copy in Arachnophobia!
