Owner's Description

Atom #17 features a Time Pool story and an appearance by Jules Verne-that right Jules Verne, you never know who is going to show up in an Atom story. In that story, Alpheus Hyatt's Time Pool pulls up the base of a crystal ball supposedly the property of Nostradamus from the year 1888 and Ray decides to investigate the mystery as the Atom. Traveling through the Pool to 1888, he learns that the crystal ball is actually the property of writer Jules Verne.

When thieves who believe the crystal ball can foretell the future, the Atom secretly busts up the criminals, and ends up learning that the crystal ball has no future telling properties and only showed swirling mists, Verne tells the police that he used it as inspiration for his books. With the mystery cleared up, Atom fishes out a used pen tip from Verne's trashcan to bring back to the present for Hyatt's collection of items "fished" out of the past.

Our WP 9.8 comes from the John Fantucchio Collection and is tied with two others for highest graded. We acquired it from the CL auction of 9/1/2018.*

2024 Update: There are now four 9.8s in the Census.
