1:1 ratio cover. Eduardo Risso, huh? Cover 5B. New to me. That's one of the glorious things about this run - the number of artists I was introduced to due to the covers. I couldn't afford to but them all in 2005 - but I can appreciate them all now. This is a very cool, minimalist cover design, with Red tangling with a group of cultists wearing animal headdresses ~ which makes them look waaaay cooler than normal cultists, so good job there. Something I cant put my finger on about Risso's use of color and shading really works for me - I keep looking at the cover and I just really enjoy the image. As much as I am normally a fully rendered background kinda guy, the golden sky (?) as the only background really sets the image off well.
Obviously there's nothing to be said about Red's footwork, but her eye contact is strong, and even her reversed hand grip on the sword isn't terrible - even if it is a lefty's grip.
Overall? I dig it.
Also included for absolutely no additional charge - the my copy of the absolutely crazy-busy Bradshaw cover 5C as well. Look at that - it should have an entire listing dedicated to it.
