Synopsis: For the past several nights, Carol Danvers has been having a recurring nightmare in which she, as Ms. Marvel, is hunted down and killed with an advanced disintegrator beam weapon by a faceless man who claims to be working with the cooperation of SHIELD. Her waking scream brings her new neighbor, Arabella Jones, but rather than sending her back to bed, Carol invites her to stay and talk. Arabella can’t help but notice how high-strung Carol is, and warns her that she needs some sort of emotional release.

That afternoon, aboard the SHIELD helicarrier, two security guards are surprised by the sudden, unexpected arrival of Nick Fury. Fury chews them out for using the vortex beam chamber security monitors to watch footage of Ms. Marvel, but it turns out that the individual is not Fury at all but a shape-shifter named Raven who has assumed his form. With Raven is Ballard, and they have infiltrated the helicarrier to obtain a special weapon from its armory, codenamed Centurion. Raven’s shape-shifting abilities get her and Ballard past three security checkpoints and into the armory, where Ballard impulsively fires the handheld weapon, setting off the alarms. They head back toward the vortex beam chamber as quickly as possible, evading the Contessa de Fontaine in the process, and Raven shifts into the Contessa’s form to get her and Ballard back to the surface.

Meanwhile, Frank Gianelli surprises Carol with a Valentine’s Day snowball ambush involving the entire Woman magazine editorial staff. Carol surrenders to the moment and returns fire, tackling Gianelli and even sharing a kiss before rebuffing his more pointed romantic overtures. Finding some privacy, she changes into Ms. Marvel, intending to fly home and change clothes before returning to the office. But unbeknownst to her, Ballard is hunting her and has her in his sights.
