I started collecting in the 1990's with the Death of Superman storyline... you can read about that in both my Competitive and Custom Set dedicated to that story, and those books and collectibles...
When this story came out I was stationed overseas and had a good relationship with my previous LCS back in the States and the owner and I would exchange packages... he'd send me Previews, I'd send my order form back, and later I'd receive everything I ordered... we had our system down!
I was also into collecting cards by this time and worked with another business... Paul and Judy's, for most of my card needs... I'd order a box or two and then order what I needed to fill in my chase cards, and anything else I thought I needed. The below is a box topper I picked up along the way! I'm quite certain that Superman is about to give Hulk a beatin' he won't soon forget!
Below is the ballot, front and back... I know I sent mine in and I'm certain I would have voted along party lines... DC all the way! I have several of these ballots still laying around... I also have my original raw Preview issue with the inserts still inside it... I'll be sending that in to CGC eventually, and it'll probably be the last graded book I'll need here... it's got potential but needs a press and I know CCS won't do it with the inserts still inside so I'll have to find another presser! Check that book's slot below for any updates!
Yeah, looking at this ballot again, even all these years later... it's still definitely DC all the way! I know it didn't quite go that way though... because...
This is the two card promo set for the trading cards... I think this is really cool and if they didn't do a uncut set of these two cards, then I think they really missed an opportunity back then! I'm pretty sure Batman is 'bout to show Cap who owns the night!
I've had all of the original first printings of this set since they came out and also have the TPB around here somewhere. My mission to put this set together started when I picked up the Issue 4 Multi-Pack Edition... but that was more for the DC Universe Logo aspect of my collecting than anything else at the time. I sat on that book waiting for the other DCU issue to pop up when I stumbled upon the Issue 1 Second Printing for cheap (I can't resist those Roman Numerals!)... that's when I made the decision to complete this CGC graded set... hopefully all in 9.8 some day!
