Set Description:

I started collecting in the 1990's with the Death of Superman storyline... you can read about that in both my Competitive and Custom Set dedicated to that story, and those books and collectibles...

When this story came out I was stationed overseas and had a good relationship with my previous LCS back in the States and the owner and I would exchange packages... he'd send me Previews, I'd send my order form back, and later I'd receive everything I ordered... we had our system down!

I was also into collecting cards by this time and worked with another business... Paul and Judy's, for most of my card needs... I'd order a box or two and then order what I needed to fill in my chase cards, and anything else I thought I needed. The below is a box topper I picked up along the way! I'm quite certain that Superman is about to give Hulk a beatin' he won't soon forget!

Below is the ballot, front and back... I know I sent mine in and I'm certain I would have voted along party lines... DC all the way! I have several of these ballots still laying around... I also have my original raw Preview issue with the inserts still inside it... I'll be sending that in to CGC eventually, and it'll probably be the last graded book I'll need here... it's got potential but needs a press and I know CCS won't do it with the inserts still inside so I'll have to find another presser! Check that book's slot below for any updates!

This is the two card promo set for the trading cards... I think this is really cool and if they didn't do a uncut set of these two cards, then I think they really missed an opportunity back then! I'm pretty sure Batman is 'bout to show Cap who owns the night!

I've had all of the original first printings of this set since they came out and also have the TPB around here somewhere. My mission to put this set together started when I picked up the Issue 4 Multi-Pack Edition... but that was more for the DC Universe Logo aspect of my collecting than anything else at the time. I sat on that book waiting for the other DCU issue to pop up when I stumbled upon the Issue 1 Second Printing for cheap (I can't resist those Roman Numerals!)... that's when I made the decision to complete this CGC graded set... hopefully all in 9.8 some day!

This is the most expensive book in this set... there was one on eBay asking over $850.00! This one popped up for less than half that and after a few offers, I got it for about a third... happy to have it in my collection!

This was the second graded copy of books from this set that I collected. I spotted this on eBay for a little over $100.00, which I thought was pretty good for a Second Print, and I really love seeing those Roman numerals on the cover of books from this era, so I had to grab it!

At that point I contemplated building a set and checked out the Registry sets... I ended up digging through my long boxes and lo and behold, I did in fact have the Preview book with the inserts still in it! It had some finger bends but nothing that I didn't think wouldn't press out, no spine ticks. I pulled it and put it in my next stack of books to get graded, and started hunting the other books from the set! I'm going to have to use another presser for the Preview issue due to the inserts, and I have someone in mind... that will be the last book to be added to this set and regardless of the grade, it'll be neat that it's my original copy! Stay tuned!

I originally wanted this book for the Hulk vs Superman cover... it just ended up that the first/cheapest one that popped up was this newsstand. I'm not a newsstand collector but I do think it's neat to be able to see a newsstand, direct, DCU, and second printing of books all in this little set!

I bought this off of My Comic Shop for right around $100.00. I've found My Comic Shop to be one of the most reliable Sellers on the internet... I've got a couple boxes of books I want to consign there... if I could trust the mail system!

This is the first graded book from this set that I added to my collection. At the time, I bought this primarily for the DC Universe Logo. I was planning on slowly building this set but wasn't in any rush. It was probably a couple years later when I added the Second Printing of Issue 1 that I started getting a little excited about building this set.
