The 1st Ultimate Title. The one that started it ALL. The "Ultimate" titles would later bring on Marvel Zombies and shows. Ultimate Spider-Man itself did reenergize the comic genre, and it gave a fresh perspective of just what was possible. Love or Hate IT! It is a part of history! I did not know it had the custom label when I bought it, Dave and Adam's website is glitchy sometimes that the pictures don't load or are not loaded. Really nice-looking book though and a 9.6 to boot! A "white" variant I believe that is harder to come by, but also shares a similar cover to another "Ultimate Issue" and takes a keen eye to tell the difference. I mentioned the white cover because those are notoriously hard in grade if you look at things like ASM #298, #299, and #301. This was a happy slab that I stumbled upon, but yes, I paid up for it. Glad I did, it went well with my other Ultimate slabs that were picked up much the same, affordably. I'd fill my bins with all of the above!
Complete with a back cover picture of the "Walmart" version that has the regular cover of this issue #1. While I have what is considered "the white version" slabbed, there are several "different versions to collect and or read!"

Fun! 9.8 signed by Brian Michael Bendis on 8/24/03 on first page. I happened upon it at Titan Comics. A flash sale is always fun, if timed right! I enjoy that this is one of the 1st 9.8's that I had purchased way back in 2014-2015. Long before the boards, and or, the registry! It's all in good fun and a well presenting book was new to me at the time. Finding specimens to improve my grading at the time were needed. I tried to say I appreciated comics, which I did and do, but I didn't know anything about Ultimate Spider-man specifically. I tried to find out when purchasing. First page signatures may either, "seem the way to go because of CGC yellow label or a preference for some period the end!" Early on in people's collection they are super fans of sigs from creators, as the zeal is real. That carries on to Signature Series Yellow Label!
Complete with a back cover picture of the prescreen pass before released to theaters of, "Mission Impossible: Fallout!" That's how it feels to some signing on the cover or even pressing, and without the signature series label some feel the "fallout" emotion and lost as well! Some don't want a comic defaced on the cover. I usually like to see the signature, but I like the 1st page signatures if witnessed too sometimes! Ultimate Spider-Man led to the Ultimate Fallout series as well, both collected and appreciated!

Awesome 9.8 1st Ultimate Moon Knight with a sketch cover. Cool Cover, and at the time I had never seen the like. A 9.8 was still new to me, and I wondered how it was possible! Finding this cheap at Titan Comics made my day, especially meeting my mom for lunch that day and telling here that I had a 9.8! She calmly listened to me rattle on about a new hobby. She was just thankful that Titan was near her work, and that I'd visit more often! We all need support! Comics can bring us together! I didn't know who the Ultimate Spider-man was, I tried asking at the counter, but didn't want to give away my ignorance at the time. $15-20 slabs seemed to be too good to be true, and I appreciated the LCS for offering them, figured they knew better than me. I did get a little info, that the Ultimate was a different Universe, after asking. Supporting the Local Comic Shop has become a major goal for me. I want people to trade with and to see books in person, and where better than the LCS, rather than waiting for Comic-Con! Go to the Con too, however, lol.
Complete with a back cover picture of the prescreen pass before released to theaters of, "Dog Days!" Dog Days of Summer is an expression that has been around a long time, that alluded to free time and fair-weather environments, which I had way back when going to college. Time to visit LCS to discover hobbies, comics, and meet up for lunch!

It DOES say, "Mail away exclusive" on label, as there was a wizard mail away offer for this book, and it confused me at first, as these 1st gen labels look a bit different! Good Stuff to keep hanging around though, and I bought this at Titan Comics when they were having a $15-20 slab sale, a nice addition and in a 9.8. Sometimes the wake-up call to new things can be a benefit, and while this was one of the 1st slabs, I ever picked up and especially in grade, it was still hard to compare to newer books for me with that darker cover. A newbies perception of condition for me was difficult. Really an awesome thing to hold a 9.8 for the first time, and my Ultimate Spider-man's had to be the first's. I didn't know which way was up, nor what I was looking at, wanted those sweet looking moderns. I had barely even heard of CGC. Still had heard they were valuable and the LCS had a bin marked at $15-20 a piece. I did the math after asking how much it cost to submit to CGC. Slabs at no cost for the book but priced at only the cost to slab was a no brainer. I ponied up, left and still came back for more! I was hooked!
Complete with a back cover picture of the Wizard Magazine that featured the 1/2 option to get this issue! Straight from the used bookstore to a mail away! Those "Wizard fans" had it good, ha!
