Set Description:
Many 1sts in this run, with a respectable number of Newsstands around that I didn't go overboard with, yet! I like them a lot. These can be found in the dollar bin as of 2021. On the uptick value and collectable wise. Great characters like Cassandra Nova and Fantomex, the Morrison run delivers with the "New X-men!" Having some fun with the set overall, these have been interesting to read of the 1st appearances, with twists and turns. Somethings are just appreciated for the time of their conception, even if it is not as intended. I was way out of comics at this time, and it is nice to see what kept up the interest, for others, back then!
Fantomex and Negasonic Teenage Warhead being the great turn out, there were a few other 1sts in this series, such as Quentin, that made out well in other series as pivotal shakers and movers! We need X-men all the time and in our media shows.
Along with the Avengers it is make or break the internet time, by those standards and newer artists make or breaking that is, and not coinciding with Avengers isn't a hiccup, as the X-men stand all on their own. Flipping a coin between the smudges of plot, there isn't too much betwixt the old and new, except those lines of firsts that once again beckon from the dollar bin. Those slabs mean impulse buys as the corner turns into not just liking them but love for the benefit of the collection. In it to win it the X-men bounce back hard with those aspiring covers that look childishly "simple", but complex in totality that a run could have and mean so much to the thrill of the hunt. LOVE IT! Those are the moments that make it out alive when there is a slow burn of relief. Seeking and finding takes a whim of favor and knowing the plan.

NEWSSTAND! 1ST Cassandra Nova! 1st of the New X-men run! Presentable 9.0. Morrison came through this time, onward! Sometimes the wonky covers speak to an era of the 00's that are all their own. Sweet pick up on this, at $48. Since I bought this already slabbed, I don't know if it is pressed. Cassandra Nova seemed a great character, these Grant Morrison books are doing well. They may have picked up due to him as a writer, hope it plays out well. The run starts here and with more to come back for me from CGC, I'm excited. I picked others up from the DVD store, seemingly these can be easy to find for now. Condition relative too, but great stories and pivotal characters. The uniqueness of comics is to lure you in, but it better be worth it with a good read as well or the disappointment sets in and that is a double whammy.
Complete with back cover picture of the insides showing the seriousness of it all! What may come of it? I got it raw from the LCS Awesome Comics. Used a bit of very good condition commons to trade for some other commons that were better in grade!
Grader Notes:
light crease left center of back cover;
light spine stress lines to cover.

1st app of Negasonic Teenage Warhead. (Ellie Phimister) Appeared I believe in the Deadpool Franchise of Movies! Even then, we don't get too much of a close-up, until the 2nd movie or so I believe. She can bomb me anytime; the actress was a bit trendy looking. Like a punk-rocker! Still, she may have some growing up to do, and if she is allowing the Deadpool to be a teacher, ooh what mischief. Still, this is the regular cover at 9.4, and not a bad representation for a mostly white cover but black spine. Found at the DVD store I frequent, and for cheapish, that's a win, win, winner! Glad to add to this Grant Morrison run while I can. I have the Variant of this issue as well, yet it didn't survive in grade quite as well. Glad to have the Wolverine gracing this regular cover issue! Every little bit helps, down to the most minute detail, as comics have seen it all, and then it comes down to the attitude read and the payoff!
Complete with a back cover picture of the movie Deadpool 2 DVD, which also carried the Warhead character in the 2nd installment. Back for more, the Deadpool was still recruiting, and with little rights to characters for the first, the Warhead survived the cutting room floor to appear again! Very witty yet with an adult look at superhero's that still have somewhat child attitudes with crisis.
Grader Notes:
light spine stress lines to cover;
light stacking bend.

1st Negasonic Teenage Warhead. (Ellie Phimister) An odd last name, as I don't believe that I've ever run into that one before in Realtime. Grant Morrison continues with the plot this issue and graces the ever so clumsy leader, the "Cyclops", on the cover. Wolverine appears this issue, and really has not ever gotten along with Scott Summers or the Cyclops. Whenever they both appear in an issue, prepare for orders to not be followed, and or, fouled up the yin-yang. Cyclops likes giving Logan-the Wolverine impossible tasks too. This issue is the variant of #115 in this series, and it did not fair too well in the grading room. Still obtained on the cheap, at my DVD store, so I cannot complain too much. In the end, it's the variant that makes the book and at a price that was affordable! Those decisions can mean make or break within the collection sometimes, and it is the thrill of the hunt that makes you stiffen the upper lip or has you thinking I can read this any old time. Well, here we are in the slab with a raw to read!
Complete with a back cover picture of the insides showing the seriousness of the issue, when sentinels come in premonition form to cause destruction in reality! Negasonic looking a little peculiar than shown in the Deadpool film, fighting the Wolverine and Cyclops!
Grader Notes:
moderate spine stress lines to cover;
moderate tear with crease top of back cover breaks color.

1st appearance of "FANTOMEX." A trained assassin that is out to get the X-men, who somehow proves his loyalty to them instead. Fantomex even betrays the one who sent him, foiled to do away with the X-men, once again. 9.4 is a hot item for this particular book, and found at my DVD store, I'm hoping other's that I sent in get a similar grade. Up to CGC and those stockers at the store though. I can find them bagged and boarded there, and they're at least fun to flip through. The book itself being a 1st appearance in the Grant Morrison run was interesting and a fun goal to achieve. It had a lot of insights on what his run was going to be and how he wanted to handle the X-men. Glad to pick it up and have it in the collection. I've since gone back and found a few more, but these days this run has simmered into a steady heat in the market. All while inspiring for the readers that I've found, I call that a win, win, win!
Complete with a back cover picture of the prescreen pass before released to theaters of, "Amsterdam!" Since this comic issue takes place in Europe, specifically Paris, France and surrounding areas, we've got the assassin on the loose in both comic and movie form. Guaranteed to take to the rural side of things to track down the new age motif that is brewing!

1st appearance of "DUST" (Sooraya Qadir). A FantomX appearance as well. All cultures need representation, and hopefully a faithful one. Dust seen here on the cover, and with a gleam of the Wolverine in her eye. Coming in fast and hot, we better find out what it's all about, and quick! These times are tough and getting even tougher. With inclusiveness and exclusion, not everyone can be on the winning team. In the end, we've got a story, and or, plot to tell. This Wolverine repertoire of striking first and asking questions later? Old habits die hard! Even then the Wolverine's guttural choices have been proven correct on more than one occasion, but oh those misses and near misses, make you gasp out loud while reading! Dust has become important while keeping the goals at hand here in the run. Despite any hiccup and or misunderstandings, these Morrison issues had a lot to offer in the way of familiarizing the characters to flesh them out!
Complete with a back cover picture of some following issues, including a Newsstand, but it just shows the covers and the art related to this run. Still able to be found at the DVD store for me, makes reading the run at cover price worthwhile!
Grader Notes:
light crunch left bottom of front cover;
light spine stress lines to cover.

1st appearance of Quentin Quire. A real juvenile that keeps up the hijinks to prolong the inevitable "teaching" at Xaiver's School! Indeed, the school is for the mutants to come to terms with the responsibilities of becoming productive citizens. I say juvenile not because of the "law" but more the will to misbehave and see how much can be got away with. Testing the boundaries and or just being an all-out hostile student was new to this reader. The classic X-men felt a sense of duty, but not with Mr. Quire. It seems the, "he didn't ask to be a mutant with powers" is pushed to the forefront and the duty to serve mankind is not on the mind of the young able-bodied individual. Seemingly it gets corrected through the discipline of our childhood for most, but in these here adventures, we see the "schooling" firsthand. Being an adult is full of responsibilities.
Complete with back cover picture of #143, Newsstand and 2nd Fantomex but not the greatest condition, and #144 direct edition. These are the copies that are a bit beat, but some good reads for the stories and the Newsstand are harder to find in any grade.
