Ongoing in an endless sea of Bronze 1sts, not as much a rib tickler as it is a straight uppercut. These are the trail blazers that took it up, and quite a bunch around the middle of the 70's decade!

It is amazing how may first appearances are also number one issues within the Bronze Age. It isn't a gift horse in the mouth to gaze at too long as those trickling down benefits make for a case of left over Silver Age issue titles as well. Moving along in a good transition between them, to the creative type writing, and over all art with modern technology at the forefront. We have still come a long way since then, what with improved printing techniques, and it sums up as the decades go on that show the improvement but can also lose something in a traditional way. These artists had opportunity and ample time to curate into the next age, being Copper. Those artists, writers and creators from the Bronze were all in a mindset of trying to come in with ideas of the next great comic, it was worth the effort, but with an increased popularity and work production it had a lot to delve between; especially when working already with existing characters and operations.

Origin and 1st Appearance of "Kangaroo" (Frank Oliver) Another Half Price Books Find that was READ and put away, nice to now have it slabbed. The guy grew up with Kangaroos and is trying to get used to city life! HAHAHA. Life in the city and country are very different, and when you're trying to do right, misunderstandings happen. Spidey really never was good at calming someone down. I can't count the times that his mouth just escalated things, simple things. It was always aggravating. He was sometimes too salty for what was tried to be portrayed as, "Peter Parker? Oh, what a sweet boy." lol Given the times and era of Parkers upbringing, I think Aunt May was probably too lenient, and yet, Parker the Spider-Man was out fighting crime and having real dangers. This issue may seem more of an "adventure", yet those don't get a pass for childish behavior.

1st appearance of Morbius, the Living Vampire (Doctor Michael Morbius). Lizard appearance. Last 15 cents issue. I bought this 2022 December as prices are tending to come down a bit. I've owned the 2nd appearance and origin for quite some time, although I wanted a decent mid-grade copy of the 1st app, I could never swing it until now from eBay. Older label, and sure to fit the collection nicely! They even spelled the "Morbius" name correctly on the 1st appearance as opposed to the 2nd, a running joke. The movie was dismal but when it came to the silver age of comics, it is still worth a pickup! This #101 issue is just after having ran for 100 issues, and they weren't quite done with the Amazing Spider-man story line, it would be built on the backs of "greats" for years to come. I'm just happy to have grown up hearing of the older tales, and to now see them celebrated, is a sight to see! $503 Cost.

As the search for body parts continues in comic and movie form, you decide which is worse: the feeding to stay alive by blood or harvesting parts of those passed on to reattach to the living dead? Those are spine tingling sensations that are Vampires and Frankenstein's alike!

1st appearance of Hammerhead. Doctor Octopus appearance. That Hammerhead is one mean hombre! Similar to Flat-top in Dick Tracy, we've got the flat head and big forehead. Also similar, is the fact it seems to be a gangster motivated villain, that gets around! All we need is a tommy gun and a brief case and we've got a spy tech thriller. Spidey's sarcasm goes over like a lead balloon and makes the straight-talking Hammerhead furious. Not willing to play the game of tag with the Spider-man, old Hammerhead goes in for the headbutt. Ka-plow! Those webs better hold old hot head to the rafters. In only 6.5, which is fine +, but I'll take it. Gives you the chills to think of the idiosyncrasy that was this time for comics, relative to the period that they take place and represent. The early 70's speaks back to television, such as Scooby-Doo, "Where are you?" A bunch of quirky fun! $83 Cost.

Gangsters were everywhere at this time of publishing, and the movie takes place as a similar in picture time period piece. Brazen are the gangsters that aren't afraid to show their face or usual hide outs! Enter Hammerhead!

1st appearance of the Punisher (Frank Castle) and the Jackal. Signature Series by Stan Lee. Mark Jeweler insert and one of the first 4 books I got signed on 6/4/16. I dropped them all off at the Fan Expo Dallas 2016, which was my first bigger comic con. A 3.0, but with white pages. Many years from now, I hope mine is still as unique as it is today, no matter the grade! A great story, as the Punisher thinks Spidey is the bad guy. At the behest of a character named the "Jackal" there is seemingly information that is being fed to the Punisher, to get him to try to take the Amazing Spider-man down. Fast on his feet, Spidey escapes the bullet meant for him, among rooftops and talks some smack! Not to be out done the book wraps up as a plan foiled, but maybe foiled for another day, which means coming to terms with new enemies and friends.
Complete with a back cover picture of the ongoing adventures involving the Punisher, in gallery statue form. Hoping always to protect, and yet casualties happen, all in a day's work! Some grim exiles to last see the Punisher before their demise! Such a dynamic personality that spoke to the times. $467 Cost.

Punisher cameo. Cameo in a 2nd Appearance? Maybe it is more the 1st appearance of the Tarantula, and some details are needed to stop him. I enjoyed reading this issue. With the Tarantula Party crashing a boat and Peter Parker on board with his mates, it shapes the story. Not knowing how to secretly become Spider-man to stop the jewelry theft, chaos ensues. With a Punisher cameo, until the end he still wants to find the Spidey or the Tarantula and lay it all down for the web-crawler! Harry has been listening and putting a puzzle together, will this further his ambition? A lovely Very Fine Plus copy, glad to have added it, as I had speculated on it a bit. I bought this at a smaller con in Irving, Texas, early on when coming back to collecting for like $10. It looked in great condition and I had a gut feeling that it contained a Punisher appearance. I wasn't sure at the time being real new back to the hobby, and I mainly bought it to find out, at the time. I also bought another yellow cover with it, in 2017, an X-force #11 that came back CGC 9.6. Believe it or not they were both from the same price $10 BIN back then! $103 Cost with slab.
Complete with a back cover picture of the "screen for photos", featuring an Assassins Creed outfit where it looks like a shell-back TMNT, and with a Ralph Macchio and William Zabka guest appearance, at the prescreen before released publicly of, "Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 2!" In the film as well this issue of Amazing Spider-man the kicks fly but not without acting in haste and repenting in leisure. It takes the will to survive this world, and when calling it as you see it to make sure there is something still worth fighting for, after all the time to do good, make good, and keep it well enough off in this world of cobras or tarantulas.

1st Harry Osborn as the new Green Goblin. Could it be? Something begins anew. Almost picking up right where the old ends, Harry Osborn believes that he has a cause. A reason to strike at Peter Parker and Spider-man and to maybe even let the cat out of the bag on the secret identity. These are tough emotions for both Osborne and Parker to process. One is going maniacally out of control and down a spiral, while they are both helpless. Parker tries to strike some kind of peaceful bond, and that may work for a while. The inevitable is coming, it appears that it has been here the whole time. Only waiting to come to the surface. Harry continues a time-honored tradition for his family and circumstances, by making a big deal out of something small. All those small things have now added up to something more than he can handle. It's a hard knock life! $307 Cost.

Punisher & Nightcrawler appearance. 1st appearance of Jigsaw (William Russo) & Doctor Marla Madison. Two 1st appearances for the price of ONE! William Russo was seemingly portrayed in the Punisher Netflix seasons, and he captivated the role by bringing a set of creepiness to it. Jon Bernthal wasn't a bad actor as the Punisher either, and here in the comics Frank Castle is coming to terms with just what is "Jigsaw!" Who tends to think that the cause of everything wrong in his life is due to the Punisher. While it may mostly be true, actions have consequences and God help us! Complete with a 1st appearance of Dr. Marla who has come to help, but for how long? It is somewhat a Soap Opera at first, until the feelings get hashed out, then it is an all-out brawl of a conspiracy! The Punisher who is Frank Castle even has somewhat a beef with Spider-man and Nightcrawler on the cover! Jigsaw had an ugly mug and got it in an ugly way, such is that life that turns to naught.
Complete with a back cover picture of, "Escape from New York!" Portrays what it must feel like to evade the Punisher with the clock ticking and it all on the line. These stories and the premise of the bigger stick, it's what made many an era!

1st Black Cat! My brother bought this for me for my birthday 2020, so grateful, the Lord will provide. Blessings from family do mean a lot! The portrayal of the thievery by the "Black Cat" has got some humble beginnings. Is it right to do something wrong, but for the "right reasons?" See the Cat struggle with Parker's answers! Spider-web thickens. Too much of a woman for the "mild manner" Parker? He'll show her what for soon, the infamous kissing's and becoming of friends, in comics and cartoons. With movies, it'll be the showboat to boot for Mary Jane. Got to keep the plots coming and let them be done correctly, with thoughtfulness and foresight! Peace and comfort may set in, in spirit, then it is enough to carry out your actions and not depending on others capacity to see it. Knowing in yourself that it is and will be great! Try and try again!

"Fake Death" of Aunt May and the 1st Debra Whitman appearance! A ploy? A ruse? It affects the emotions and tugs on the reader to play detective and come up with some answers of who done it? Keep tuned wall crawlers! With any permanent death of Aunt May in the future, it will have to be further enough down the road to still make an impact. This is the story that prepared the way, but it was long gone down the road before anything so awful happened to Peter. Maybe that is part of the reason Peter Parker was able to hang on and make friends. His Trusted Aunt May was always there, and his responsibility isn't taking a vacation, he just doesn't ever want the death to be his fault. Not putting a burden on a character that is too much to bear is difficult, because they're superheroes! They can reflect life and the over abundant material can seem convoluted. We need certain walls, that are only broken in case of emergency. $70 Cost.

This movie shows the plight of the disabled and or old, their dependence on others, and that it takes a special person to stay on the upside of life! 1st Deathlok! 1st George Perez artwork also on the last 2 pages! Going on the premise of a type of a cyborg. These machines will combine their wisdom, man-made, to the individual! I hope they get along. Deathlok and machine, go at it as a team! Giving some love to my boy, another bronze 1st from around the CGC cutoff for modern submissions, currently anyway. These 70's 1sts all kind of sprouted like trees, only to be recently farmed as fodder to people's speculation. Some great original ideas, given style for the Marvel usual, and they had let in new talent. Given the conditions at the time, they still got nice or great stuff out the door. Rich Buckler? Art. Make mine Marvel, but hardly heard of him. Klaus Janson? Now I've heard of him! Classic artist that went on to "bigger and greater" things but had the starts of something here to prove worthy of being the "go to" when the time came. Do not despise "small" beginnings!
Complete with a back cover picture of the last issue of this run, which is also, the first "Newsstand Marked" available for this run, issue #36. Some dislike the barcode, but they are "markings" of what was the original distribution system for comics, and yet, having it 1st on Newsstands as the last issue? It was probably "always on the newsstand distribution", but this probably being the 1st issue of the run to show the "Newsstand BARCODE", which could have been a jolt for collectors at the time. Nuances!

1st Liberators. One in disguise gets the drop on the "men" if it isn't too much, she may just trick the Avengers! Look out for the Double Cross in this issue of the women taking action! It has a "Date or Price" stamp on it, but that just makes it genuine. Got to give this book some credit for the onslaught of a cover. It opens up the possibility that the past will be old or for a minute the new will be the norm. Is this really the transition they had in mind? Will it prove permanent? What the next level will be and how it all transpires is the question! It is the ole' switcheroo in the book. Bought a raw to read. As copies of this come and go for me, I've only found the one 8.5 that was worth keeping, yet it is one of the more riveting or ongoing narrative in modern times as well. Glad to have a representation of something that started a long time ago, although not as clearly identified.
Complete with a back cover picture of, "The Bronze!" Since this Avengers issue marks that beginning, I'll top it off with Melissa Rauch, who was in the Big Bang Theory TV show. Nerds! As the Feminine cherry topper gets all the more about being comfortable with who you can be in this day and age!

Patsy Walker Becomes HELLCAT!! With a Two-Gun Kid Appearance. I have Golden Age Patsy Walker, sweet copies to read, and I'm glad to add this 9.4 to my collection and registry! Avengers Assemble! That Cat has the groove and the catchy name to make the grade. She's an oldy but now a goody, no longer just a goody two shoes, but putting on heel kicking boots. She is so awesome in her first appearance as HellCat proving she has the Moxy. Others remain impressed and I hope the rest of her stories are just as good; although, I haven't ever heard much of it. Do not despise small beginnings. It takes a village, but some participants are older than others. With that revisioning and possible potential, anything can be utilized to bring about a fresh perspective. A writer that see's the goal of what might work can then ponder for a few issues to see how well it fits!
Complete with a back cover picture of, Patsy Walker #11 that I bought from Keith's comics for like $15. Patsy Walker wasn't a "dame", she was a lady! Patsy was also the name of my grandmother, so good company now as a back cover pic with #11. These ladies have inspired their followers for ages and the time to reminisce is always worth it!

1st appearance of Scott Lang (later becomes Ant-Man II). New Avengers line-up. Scott Lang given it his best! Great presenting old label Near Mint 9.4! Bought from Dave and Adams for $159 in 2022. I sold a Sideshow Campbell Black Cat Statue that cost $244 for only $160, but it was enough to purchase this "Avengers" and that is satisfying all its own! Indeed, had been lacking on my older books and slabs. There have been "raws" that have been found, but nothing beats the slab purchase for an emotional booster to get back on track. I like Ant-Man as there seems to be room for comedy that "fits" and is not forced. An Avenger that has stood alone on the movie charts, and also eventually with the help of fellow hero the Wasp. This issue decides who stays and who goes! Ant-man has got to prove his salt and make that cut! Staying ahead of the game takes some discipline but groups together get it done.
Complete with a back cover picture of the prescreens theater showing the actual screen of when I saw Paul Rudd, who is the current and eternally young Ant-Man Scott Lang in Marvel films, show his acting chops in, "Ghostbusters: FROZEN EMPIRE!" His portrayal is the first back cover picture of the actual movie screen that I put up in the registry. "Busting made him feel 'good', when who you going to call? GHOSTBUSTERS!" A classic line in the film and it was a hoot and a half, to show the kind of actors we need for any "other" ANT-MAN PORTRAYAL'S!

1st appearance of Marvel Man (Wendell Vaughn, later becomes Quasar). Texas Twister, Blue Streak & Vamp app. Some Captain America flights of fancy, as the adrenaline hero comes to face with a "Marvel Man" appearance! Strange things are in the works for this the bronze age, and not everyone knows what will become of the spark in interest. Marvel Man goes on to become Quasar, which I have when he changes his name in the collection, it only makes "sense" that I have the original iteration as well. Nicely captured in CGC 8.5, this VF+ will fit nicely in my collection! Picked up in 2023 for a little more than I could have paid, but it was in trade to the LCS Awesome Comics. I just needed some time to offload and recoup from collecting "moderns" and to get back to my roots of consecutive and consistent appearances and grades. I'll take it for the win, here in 2023! I bought it already slabbed, but it appears that it had a bad press job when submitted according to the grader's notes.

1st CHAMPIONS. I really thought that this would grade higher. Everything in this segment of an era seemed to be "team-ups". This and the Defenders seems like a good mash-up. A Keith's Comics find, after searching and searching for a raw, now it's subbed! I hardly ever press but knowing is half the battle, keep it above the waist. Finally got graders notes though, and that's some fun! Known in their own right, they've teamed up to face what could only be done in their perspective, not always well or with agreement. These scary and somewhat supernatural's are taking it all on together, bound only by what they can see as justice. If you're looking for a typical Bronze Age comic, then go no further, this has the classic feel and style! Brought to us by the likes of Gil Kane and Mike Esposito! Great minds who brought exciting things to the page.
Complete with a back cover picture of the prescreen pass before released to theaters of, "Champions!" What the world thinks is sports, which is akin to a team. The differences and uniqueness of us all makes us CHAMPIONS through Christ who strengthens us. We can't do it alone; it takes the supernatural.
