In the aftermath of the Infinity Gauntlet Adam Warlock gained possession of the Infinity Gems and one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe. And possibility insane. So he kept the Soul Gem and gave possession of the other Infinity Gems to others. Pip the Troll got the Space Gem, the brain damaged Drax the Destroyer became the guardian of the Power Gem. Moondragon became the guardian of the Mind Gem. And then the choices got weirder.
