Set Description:
Anticipations for Villains keep it lively in this set. We've got Spidey seeing double, and he is having a time of it. Plot twists, new discoveries, and the overall theme getting grim for the web-slinger! It gets so bad; Spidey changes his wardrobe midway through. Much to his surprise and to go on for years, but "Wait, there is more!" Artist's fill out runs with delicate precision, like the infamous Romita Jr and McFarlane. Holding true with pencil and then the pen, these collaborators give and again. A new beginning!
Spidey always gets the bad guy, with a little help from his friends!
Friends and Family have pushed an already Amazing Spider-man to his limits while creating boundaries. Those lines blur as he once again has to sort it all out, between home, work, and the all-around friendly neighborhood. It is getting this web-crawler to look beyond himself. Though the trials will come, he hasn't lost hope in faith and love. Steady girls, role models, and other type quid pro quo acquaintances and friends are pouring in around the already tumultuous landscape. Those he has found willing seem only after his stresses have surmounted and his will is weak, those true to him have been found able to still his spirit and courage. To web another day! Outcomes prove fruitful if only to make his claim to being a useful hero when those that are seeking his secrets are found to all have secrets themselves!

Punisher appearance. Marv Wolfman story with Keith Pollard & Jim Mooney art, and a John Romita & Bob McLeod cover. Is Spidey standing in the way of a man and his armory? That was new for me as a kid reading the fun loving "friendly neighborhood Spider-man." Believe it or not Spidey used to question the means by which good overcame evil, and not that it is all irrelevant today, but those questions he posed to himself in thought bubbles would intrigue a young reader. To not always give in to an easy solution, but find the effective ways to right a wrong, with simple understanding, and not to give too permanent a solution to temporary problems! Peter Parker under the mask has met the understanding within himself many times, and as for his usual sarcastic self, it would serve as a backdrop to portraying him as a real thinking person with life issues. He has lost his temper at times too, and not always gone too far, using restraint! A beautiful CGC 9.6!
Complete with a back cover picture of the prescreen pass before released to theaters of, "The Kid Who Would Be King!" Garnishing those that would find the head strong will to be head of the pack, with new "powers" come new attitudes, but strength in numbers is real. Spidey like Excalibur, here in this issue, teaches that with power comes great responsibility! A moral with a "Sword in the Stone" kind of vibe! That is the permanent solution to any problem, however temporary or not, to not give in to one's weakness in justice!

3rd appearance of the Dazzler. The 1st female in the cartoons to recognize any potential for Cyclops, ha, I'm halfway joking as Marvel Girl was there first! This temptress dazzles and fights crime in the showbiz. Lights, camera, action! She is good at finding the action, be it: fame, trouble, or gentleman callers. Keeping with the times and the lights with glamorous nightlife. A heaping of turmoil circumstances brings her to Spidey, and is she friend or foe? It's all up for debate, until someone reaches the end of the game. Dazzler is dazzling baby, with blonde flair. Nerds got to represent the Dazzler and Jubilee of their era's. Yes, indeed those were the days of hard rock, and I'm mostly not impressed with disco per se, and yet, women seemed to enjoy the dancing. You can't really "dance to rock" but can enjoy how you feel. "I feel good!" ~ the Hardest Working Man in Showbusiness, James Brown.
Complete with a back cover picture of the prescreen pass before released to theaters of, "Blinded by the Light!" Light usually representing fun with love, but normally the light also brings joy. Spidey has had some success in making that character trait function and probably listened to Bruce Springsteen once in a blue moon. It can speak to the juxtaposition between the crime fighting spirit and being loving or nurturing, and that side by side is often put into song!

1st appearance of the Hydro-man, in 9.6 white pages! Oh Ya! Give me someone who looks a lot like that "Sandman" character, and that instead spews water, that's got to be easier to find than sand! Unless of course you're made of the stuff and don't need to manipulate the matter! Bruce Lee said be like water! Even Bruce could squash the bugs. Spidey has the kick swoosh that whites out the air in one fail swoop. Keep it together, cause they're in the streets and they don't want innocent bystanders to get washed out to sea. Boom Roasted. Hydro-man takes a while to appear again, however I think he loses weight or gets a little more fit. In this issue he has too much water weight. He looks plump but this issue was distributed around Christmas, so maybe he was full of holiday ham. Time will tell if the water can move the mountain of media, although when it is time, those Copper Age books will be mined for nostalgia.
Complete with a back cover picture of Avatar the Way of Water prescreen movie pass before it hit theaters! Fitting for this the first Hydro Man appearance. The way of water had the effects in film that had visual appeal as well. Movies do affect comics or bring to bear the market. Really expensive effects and affects! A lot to take in but respectfully done. Even Alien comics actress Sigourney Weaver was representing in the film, this time with water!

Hobbies can be a monkey on your back! 1st Hobgoblin. This issue brings out the new and the old. A Keith's Comics of Dallas find, LCS, that was exquisitely a success in price, and still has the tattooz and is a newsstand copy! The Hobgoblin, a repeat or not, stood his own and is a formidable opponent for the Spider-Man. If it wasn't ramped up so quickly people would have lost interest, but hobby came in swinging and did well on the goblin craft. Spidey barely got web off in time! In time we may even have a repeat in screen time; although, it may have to be a new trilogy and in theaters. If we can get attention with it though, the property has a lot of promise. I'm happy to keep this and not upgrade. It may eventually be pressed if I can wrap my head around the value. Here we are in 2022 with a slight come back to reality in value, so far so good, as these days need to get back to genuine collecting and sincerely with a goal and purpose!
Complete with a back cover picture of scrapbook cut outs from me as a kid, of the late 80's early 90's, that promised even more "GOBLIN" Terror! It was never meant to end. The pastime of villains making villains keeps true, but some have been rehabilitated, so there is hope for Spidey's job!
Grader Notes:
light spine stress lines to cover;
moderate bends to cover;
stain right center of front cover.

1st Hobgoblin Spidey Battle Cover. A Newsstand. Similar iconic style of a cover as any key Amazing Spider-man issue would have, and I'm glad to have this yellow cover that is a little foreboding! That Hobgoblin!? Is he not necessarily a "repeat" of other goblins? Taking issue with the Goblin rite of passage is a long debate that ends in becoming the flying ghoul. You've got to have some "serum" to make it official, I think! Many times it is just as dangerous to try and follow the heroes as it is the past or villains. They may be enemies to someone else or otherwise intertwined, but we can't live in fear. Perfect love casts out all fear, and there are a lot of unhappy people in the world who desperately need love, peace, and contentment. I'm glad comics teach morals! Haha! Encouragement is needed, as Hobgoblins are the relevant topics here in this issue of Spider-man, that is action packed!
Complete with a back cover picture of a Marvel Card, as CGC has started to grade those. Spider-Man from 1993 and he was still having Hobgoblins Pumpkin Bombs being thrown at him! Those times in the writer room with everything that must have been flying around verbally to see what could be seen as the next big thing! Need only look forward in Faith Believing.

And put on a happy face, cue the music! 1st Black Costume. I was excited to get this issue early on, it has become a prize in my collection, despite how many copies are out there. This is such an important issue that will string Spidey along for years to come! This Amazing Fantasy Homage is fun and different, like melted faces different when it hit LCS stands. People rushed to the counter to purchase! We have to take the estimate of 9.6 and the authentication of blue label! Still, it's a fondness for the costume that is the winner story here. Keeping it for a long time? I'm thinking I will, its climbed in value in grade, that and I wouldn't pay that much to replace it having read the story. A fun item, that DOES have a lot of collecting focus. A very pivotal moment in comics history. Even in off-white to white pages. Act fast with what you have available, and it never takes a back seat. Be wise and shrewd! There is a lot of room for these books in nostalgia born collectors from that age, me included.
Complete with a back cover picture of the prescreen pass before released to theaters of, "Mortal Engines!" A dystopian like future film, like symbiotes need hosts, where entire cities are mass killing machines that need their hosts to live. Taking down a peg, by somehow making all things equal with robotics as opposed to symbiotes. They translate well to comics and film, although it is the symbiotes that still have heroes amongst them with the Black Costume among them!

1st appearance of the Puma, who vaguely reminds me of a Sabretooth like character. A Fan Expo Dallas 2021 find. The pounce has been sprung and will leap at a spider. The sense of a spider wins out, as Spider-Man is the agility master! Again, the Puma is in this issue, and at 9.6 it is a skilled and clean cut first generation labeled book! Getting it together, Spidey will heal in the story of how the newly powered Black Cat almost causes Spidey trouble. A Spider sense is tingling of an underweight getting a leg up! Like Rocky the boxer, Spidey needs to survive the tumult and get that roster to a higher setting and weight class. Off to a good start! Making that surprise work out was tough, but if you're going to take a shot, make it count. If you let the cards kick you when you're down, you'll never have a poker face! Perhaps one day I'll get it pressed. I'm happy to make any Comic Con an experience for the collection!
Complete with a back cover picture of the prescreen pass before released to theaters of, "Monkey Man!" Puma getting powers from a Native American Indian tribe and the Monkey Man legend from the country of India, are both endowed the powers of animals. Striking at the very heart of the powerless, both go on to fight for justice, even if the Puma has to get his inspiration from a Spider-Man first!

2nd appearance of Puma. Black Cat, Hobgoblin, Rose and Kingpin appearance. Instigating the new and improved versions of all the favorite characters at the time. This issue the Hobgoblin changes his mind or in a way gets convinced of his direction in life, thereby instigating that there may be new blood in the veins. Black Cat walking under rocking chairs, and Kingpin throwing "rocks" instigating the "pun'itive" damages! All that brings on the Puma that was in his 2nd appearance, to instigate his passions of crime against a Spider-Man. He'd have got away with it if the Spider-man wasn't on the usual nightly lookout for the seedy underbelly! I wonder if Peter Parker becoming Spider-man meant that he does not need to sleep as often or as much. I'm not sure, and if I've ever read those thoughts penned to paper, it would be more than likely in earlier issues. He spoke a lot of his progression to a heroine on the home front early on, and those were of course so subtly put that I might have forgot.
Complete with a back cover picture of the prescreen pass before released to Apple streaming of "Instigators!" Matt Damon and son of Ben Affleck, Casey. With a Casey Jones type and a "got to prove myself" attitude, with the Instigators checking in to their therapist to help out after a crime gone haywire. The therapist then gives her permission to be considered "nabbed" and with the ensuing car chase, she is brought along to enjoy the ride as well! Upping the patient fee of course! Parker went to a therapist in Amazing Spider-man issue #13, so it has these "Spider-Man turned 'hero' and into a responsible adult" written all over it!

Spider-man's New Costume Revealed to be an Alien Symbiote. I really thought this was high grade, but a detached centerfold, will get you. Harder to see stains on a mostly black cover, while not too much of those, this book did get hammered at grading. A classic story of a tailor gone wrong. Spidey asked for help during the Secret Wars, and it spit out the Symbiote, this Aliens origin! The Symbiote seems to help in this issue, but is it sentient? Does it not only respond, but also have a will? These and other stories will play out in the near future, for Spidey may not have all the information yet. As time will discover, this Symbiote reacts differently to the good wall crawler. It doesn't set off his Spidey sense, among other rage educing hormones it may develop. This Symbiote is a Hit! Will it keep on the web-slingers trail?
Complete with a back cover picture of the AMC movie adaptation comic, that I got free from the prescreen movie of Venom before it hit theaters! They really went all out.

1st Normie Osborne. Doubles! Doubles! Doubles! Comics! Comics! Comics! There was a fun charismatic boardie who does YouTube of new comic book day pick-ups! Just as joyful as this cover. Get to crackin' the spider machine. A real nice 9.4. Looking for the fun of it all, keep on collecting. This keeps up with the best of them and takes the meaning later on in the Red Goblin storyline. This Rubenstein issue keeps the thumping and keeps timely. Originally, I thought that the kid in the spider mechanical was Normie, but that's not right. Love the swing from overhead too. Swing low sweet chariot. "It is all in the "hips" (as a Happy Gilmore tie in)!" Most Spidey villains will end up taking it way too seriously, but that is normally through maniac laughter, ironic. The ties that bind in this issue may be revisited, but how seriously are these events being taken? Years down the road with many a twisted saga or turn, Spidey may come to realize "new beginning's" happen a lot in his universe!

Spoiler Alert Ned Leeds or Roderick Kingsley? Get out of here, it's time for the "Hobby"Goblin to quit and start anew! 1st New Hobgoblin, just to see it through, and later, "Demo"nstrating there are a lot of people out there to squash a spider! Man! Spidey-sense tingles a bit of all of those future arachnophobia villains that want to get revenge or some such grudge. Ned Leeds is tough to picture at the time as the ultimate enemy, yet it worked so perfectly in the end when they finally revealed. Problem is they teased it a lot, that's why they had to advertise it right on the cover. Makes me wonder if they had to rewrite to make the event worth it. People thought that it may last as long as any Goblin, but to be sure, Marvel was going with what they knew and what seemed to sell. This was all a big transition, if it was to be successful. It teased me on the newsstands too early on, but these were the stories that demanded character building most of all!

1st Todd McFarlane illustrating Spider-man. Signed by Todd McFarlane on 01/20/2020. 1st appearance Eddie Brock in Cameo. A 9.8 white pages! Yahoo! Blue ink for the sig, probably signed at the CGC in house signing 2020. Great representation and completed my ASM #298-300 run in 9.8! Just as Venom doesn't set off Spidey's "spider-sense...", this 9.8 found in the fray of sensible timing I can call it a win! Got it off eBay around early summer 2020, because it had recently been signed. Probably at McFarlane's popular peak, except for later Spawn issues. I wanted to see end results with pictures from the signing to pick something up that was comfortable in price with a quality signature, and this presented great! The submitter must have been ecstatic, and now I am! Woo-hoo! I wonder why he sold so soon. I got a great deal, 9.8's were only starting to pick up steam. I have sent in my Amazing Spider-man #301 to have Signature Series Run Bookends!
Complete with a back cover picture of another prolific artist concerning Venom! Sam De La Rosa signature on a Venom Movie poster that I got at the 1st venom prescreen, which was basically the first prescreen I ever went to that started me tracking those passes down for fun! Sam even attended the prescreen for a signing and merch! Tom Hardy did well enough for the character, I hope good things come of it.

Mcfarlane Cover, Venom cameo. Can a cameo be a 2nd appearance? Probably not, but it is there quite literally in black and white! Spidey did bring home something important to my collection that will be a mystery at first! This book is taking the 9.8 to the bank, there is always a "chance" that the pages are whiter than off-white. Glad I got it first out of all three, from issues #298-300, because testing the waters made me confident, I could finish the run that I was going after. Great book with the first full portrayal of what we now know Venom to resemble. Todd McFarlane had a rounder and more built persona, until the bell in issue #300. Great story building if you ask me. We are Venom and "I'm home" essentially quoted or paraphrased rings true for the unease, suggesting the seriousness of what is to be realized. Some chances of McFarlane signings have come and gone, but I prefer to keep this blue label, I will send in some of this run to have book ends that are signature series! Venoms line at the ominous ending of this issue, "Honey, I'm Home!"
Complete with the back cover picture of the prescreen pass that I finally found in the archives, from seeing the first Venom movie before it hit theaters. Eddie Brocks girlfriend is pregnant in the movie, if I remember correctly, but more to come from this genre! These plots are thickening like Thanksgiving gravy, of which we can only imagine the Brocks being eager to eat!

Origin & 1st full appearance of Venom (Eddie Brock). I traded a Hulk #181 in 3.0 o/w pages + $325 for this book. I'm still glad that I did, or I wouldn't be able to afford it at all. It's pristine and a needed copy in my collection. Sometimes the cost of the ticket for admission is steep! If I get tempted to submit for McFarlane Signature Series, I'll look it over with a fine-tooth comb of a magnifying glass. Todd McFarlane kept it clean, but that bell ringing really rang Venoms ears. Causing immediately the apparent weakness, that would be utilized in the future. Given Venoms blow to his ego, it only prolongs his will to try again, and for Eddie Brock, who is Venom, to get back at Spidey. At this point, it's understandable that Spidey questions Brocks motives. Relevance, like trust, is earned! Coming a long way for a return as these days Venom goes up and down in popularity, but oh to be there where I first saw the book on the newsstands! It was an epic teaching lesson! About the art and parents' guidelines for buying it!
Complete with a back cover picture of the mutual respect, and grinnish love of those who are think tanks in funny books!
