Set Description:
Updated early 2023. Added a new TNTT 4 double signed!
Quick note about George Perez, who passed early in 2022. Never met him, but my proxies who got his signatures said he accepted donations for Heroes Initiative, a non-profit that collected funds for creators in need. He was so kind to sign so many books for me (and others) that I always made a point to donate to that worthy cause. On occasion, he would thank me by signing books with his artist’s signature, of which I have a few.
Marv Wolfman, who I have met and who was also generous in signing so many of my books, has been equally kind. Just two really great guys who caught lightning in a bottle with this series, and continued catching lightning throughout the rest of their tremendous careers.
Truly blessed to have enjoyed these books back in the day, and to have this collection! As noted at top, I was able to get both Perez and Wolfman signatures in 2021 and 2022, respectively, to upgrade one of my books to White Pages.
Help me celebrate these creators and their stories of these wonderful DC characters! Enjoy!
This books set is complete (thus, the name "Consummate") and (almost) all White Pages. Plus, I've made this entire set either: (1) 9.9 (10 9.9 books, including 1 signed); or (2) 9.8 AND signed by (at least) both artist George Perez and writer Marv Wolfman (57 9.8 and at least double signed books). Plus, 5 books are triple-signed, 9 books are from pedigree collections, 6 books have Perez’s artist signature, and 1 book has an original sketch by Perez on the cover -- can you find them?
Join me in enjoying this fantastic series from DC from 1980 through late 1985. I am here to recruit you to be a fan, like I am, of this series! My descriptions are also now complete, in which I have a picture for each book below and a description that includes the following: (1) my favorite part about that particular book; (2) trivia, worthless or otherwise, about that book; and (3) information on how I obtained that book (so that you can try to do so as well). I promise, I've tried to be somewhat interesting, even if you're not a NTT fanboy.
This series had me in the comic shops once a month back in the day, until, in my opinion, DC lost momentum by changing its title (at issue 41), changing its format (starting repeats, and of a different series, with issue 59), and increasing the price by, essentially, replacing this series with the other New Teen Titans (1984) series on Baxter paper (although both series overlapped each other, and were both publishing new stories, at least for awhile).
The new series and later spin-offs were still fun, and, recently, they've brought this series back with some success. However, nothing beats the original!
Moreover, from a collecting standpoint, many current, hot DC heroes and villains first appeared in this series, so these books will always be collectible, regardless of what happened in the past or what happens in the future. Since the series is fairly compact (there are only 67 books below in this set), it's a fun set to try to collect, and only DC Comics Presents 26 (1st appearances of NTT, Starfire, Raven and Cyborg), New Teen Titans 1, and New Teen Titans 2 (1st appearance of Deathstroke) are expensive.
Particular kudos for helping me make this set to RJ's Back Issue Comics (for his special order service), adouglaw (ebay), Neatstuff Collectibles (ebay), cougar85 (ebay), Worldwide Comics (www), Comic Link (www), allcomixs (ebay), titanstower.com (THE ultimate NTT info source), rasmus2 (ebay), thejnich (registry), vrecaro (registry), par2ch (registry), comic-sutra (eBay) and to Classics Inc. (now CGC Pressing).
Many books are from my own collection, but some books were not - - as who knew in 1980 that CGC would come along years later. In addition to cherry picking anything Titans-related for about the past 20 years, I used to buy entire NM sets of this series to look for particular books that I needed. It was great fun, but I wouldn't want to do it now, as everything has gotten scarcer, in particular the super highly graded CGC 9.9's. RJ's Back Issue Comics claims to have sold the NTT 1 CGC 9.9, but Hitman1099 (ebay) advises that it was a New Teen Titans (1984 series) 1 mislabeled as being from this series. Until you see it, don't believe it!
Look at it this way, I won't be competing with you for these books - - since I already acquired them. In fact, I've sold off all duplicates of the books in my set, so you can start your own "perfect" set yourself. Plus, now that this set is all 9.8 Double SS, or 9.9 . . . it almost cannot get any better. Or can it?
Good luck and thank you for reading about this set! Senator
