Set Description:
The height of media would be the late 80's with the movie Batman, but it was a long push forward to realization that the fans wanted MORE! They couldn't get enough, and it was a bit of a frenzy. The copper age is home to new beginnings after "deaths", with token friendships and the start to the chase of every issue, as it became printed in abundance, but with more hype in the progress!
With Newer Properties in Play! New DC is trying always to adjust and make it a fanfare, the most successful, however, have been the family friendly titles. Big names have joined the ranks, but the loyal fans still clammer for Teen Titans with More and More familiar favorites.
When it comes to easy going the Copper Age is as good as any, but the bigger sticks come out to play! Given the ammo at the time with relevance and ambition, the minds were on the guns, artillery, and over all time constraints with power. It doesn't come easy always, but with some over the top attitude, which meant something akin to, "I claim this planet in the name of MARS!" Something of ego and supplanted in our memory to mean something bigger or with substance. We can see that within us was the justice in mercy that begged us to let go of limitations and inhibitions, but those like Superman and sometimes a Batman just wouldn't allow themselves to become like Mongul or a Harley Quinn!

1st app of the New Teen Titans. Picked this up at Titan Comics for cheap, when I brought it in late to sub to CGC through them, the owner said "oh, you got one of those!" I think that I snagged a deal! The owner was nice about it though! He was glad I got a deal, and so was I! Still, the Teen Titans have been in theaters with cartoon style melt your brain silliness. It was something different and hopefully current, and it was definitely upbeat! Keeping with the times these hijinks are still regarded today as fun, hip and interesting. Those quirky antics can only be made for certain audiences, and such as the modern cartoons were made to be, but they had a serious tone when it came to fighting in the name of Justice and or the American Way. It has been almost long forgot that the Teen Titans mostly came from serious teams with their own back and forth banter. Yet with the Titans and in cartoons, in a more childlike manner!
Complete with back cover picture of my prescreen pass to see Teen Titans Go! I took my brother, and it was complete with Deathstroke/Deadpool jokes and a drumming dolphin. It really fried our brains, but was a kid's movie, they even gave away Titans posters to color with crayons! There was enough frivolity that day that I was glad to be sober minded, because that was a lot! Just a lot! Ha-ha!

1st Deathstroke. A key character for the Teen Titans! Bought from the boardie "arexcrooke" I believe! I'm glad to have a well presenting copy that would be followed in the movies or cartoons, and internet videos! I think the boardie told me it could do better with a press. DC are some great reads, but most, as collectables, fly under the Marvel radar. I enjoy the characters, and anything to do with the Teen Titans seems to be the best writers and or artists, like George Perez, RIP. I guess DC valued the property more. If they come to live action film, they need to find a producer, and or, similar writer as the comics when getting it to production. All good when you're experienced in comics, and the 80's had some hits. All in all, it's nice to wax nostalgic, but I wonder what the current generation really thinks, and there are still some readers out there! Casual readers, if anything, with trade paperbacks, until they are older with more disposable income.
Complete with back cover picture of issue #23 that is collectable, but cheap enough to buy a raw copy and later a slab! Ominous cover to boot! Showing the effect of the destruction facing the "new" Teen Titans in this series!

1st Killer Croc in cameo. I really needed an upgrade, so here is a slight one, done with eBay bucks! Paid in full for a 9.0 for this cameo. Many think the controversy of Croc's first appearance is jaded, with him being in a suit or trench coat. The Croc is not a Lizard, yet that is even semi a cross-reference to Spidey villains. They needed someone new, and in the Batman the Animated series, we almost feel sorry for Croc's plight. Not always are the surface actions the real source of contention. The deeper meaning isn't always a justified cause either. The Batman does his best as a social worker sometimes, that though he never wants to kill, he need only do what is necessary! Croc the killer got it handed to him several times. The Bats said here are your walking papers with a similar upper cut to the gut. Traded blows sometimes is the Batmans motto yet can also be sincerely gentle! Ask Catwoman!
Complete with a back cover picture of a similar orange cover in a close by issue #577, for great reads as well, can't go wrong with a McFarlane cover with pistol smoke! Picked up raw for $10 at half price books.

1st appearance of Lobo, and given the circumstances, the name will come to mean something! His reputation proceeds him, but he hates goody 2 shoes Superman! Given his need for a reputation to be the baddest, he'll have a hard time if he ever suffers defeat! Bought from boardie Stormshadow_80. Lobo is a loudmouth baddie and keeps his character in the form of trying to one up any bad guy. His stories are over the top, like someone who tries to one up a story. We all know those people, and we are those people from time to time, admittedly. He'll get some more development in Superman stories. Here in Omega Men, he's trying to help the others get what they need quicker and has a bunch of ideas. Still these issues aren't valued moneywise except #3 but are all easy reads. Pretty consistent "good" writing from what I read, I think the "plot" or goal could be more aspiring, yet an easy fun read.
Complete with a back cover pic of the readers: 2nd (#5) and 3rd (#9) cameo and 1st solo (#10) Lobo story! Readers get read beware the flipper of pages as the eyes peruse, and succinctly analyze! From what I have read though, it moves along at a brisk pace, making Lobo have an interesting starting point.

1st Nightwing and Jericho. Origin of Deathstroke! The cover makes you say, "shenanigans!" Can there really be 3 awesome origins? To tell all, I got this at the Fan Expo Dallas Comic-Con 2019 from the Duncanville Bookstore who was set up there. Paid a fair amount, fair enough to learn of Duncanville and respect their pricing. They're located in Dallas! New to me! The book meant that I could finally own a Nightwing book that I want to learn more about. I have seen him referenced in other media: TV, the internet, and in Batman lore! I had not the pleasure before this issue to read on my own. A Hard black cover in grade, although there are a lot, it could be harder to keep in grade raw. I'm happy to have picked it out slabbed already. Time is on the side of the Titans, but if all are "newer" characters, is this book still about the old Titans or making a transition?
Complete with a back cover picture of the insides from a $7 under copy picked up at Half Price Books, showing the transformation of "Boy'z to Men" of Nightwing and Jericho. Don't steal the spotlight, we've got to be adults about it!

Origin and 1st Black Mask appearance. This character had a part in the movie Harley Quinn Birds of Prey, which I got to see as a prescreen and got a Harley Quinn mallet pin! It makes the cost free as well with these prescreens, when you know how to get passes! I've met friends who dress up for the comic movies, there are often prizes, gift bags, comics, and other frivolity! I went with my brother, and it was a popcorn movie. I got this slab off of the app Mercari, after my 1st purchase fell through and Mercari said sorry by giving me a 10% off coupon, so I got this after discount for $120 shipped. Really even as of 2022 it is the going price for this issue, but still has that 80s grit in art and color. The cameo of the "Black Mask" was short and sweet in the movie though. The comic shows a more thought out and gritty side, with the backdrop of Gotham!
Complete with the prescreen pass before released to theaters, as a back cover picture of, "Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of Harly Quinn)!" A nice memento from the film with the DC roller derby like action, that has also been featured in comics furthering the Harley Quinn storylines. It does kind of fit that style, and the Black Mask overlay was a nice touch in the movie!

1st app of Carrie Kelly. The wonder of the Superman, and if he'd ever have to be stopped. The Dark Knight is on the case and justice shall prevail! Frank Miller keeps the mood eerie to see the ties that bind, and how well knit the community is at DC! Glad I got the graders notes and someone used this as a turntable. A head scratcher for sure. Now a classic, this cover has stood the test, and reflection of it has some trying to repeat the success or even hype. Frank Miller even has coined back-ups and future stories to coalesce. Not always to the same fame or respect, it is just nice to see these still be relevant for the classics they are and the time or era they represent! I remember Klaus Janson also getting his first big hit on his hands by inking Millers art, and I'm glad that this issue is under his completed repertoire, as it is a very fine piece of interior!
Complete with a back cover picture of my long-owned 3rd print reader, got to love the collection enough to have reader copies! A bit of a dystopian uprising that The Batman is having to simmer down, almost through any means necessary, although even here at age 55, he has his calm wits about him!
Grader Notes;
large scratch top of back cover.

1st Appearance of Booster Gold, Skeets, and Blackguard. When talking about a BOOSTER, I mean Booster Gold of Course! Complete with a self-help robot himself, the Booster series run were issues used as underlying plots within the Death of Superman Novel, that I used to read on long road trips out of town as a kid. Booster Gold was full of newfound equipment, even worked as a "Hero" for the government. It took a lot to make his energy drain, but Doomsday was always able. Sometimes even hero's get worked out of a job! Found at Duncanville Bookstore, a LCS, it got hammered in grade. I'm starting to notice a trend with that LCS. They price mostly at "FMV" of what they believe there grading criteria is, and I will have to be more diligent in what I purchase from them. It has been a while, anyway, been waiting for stuff to come back from CGC. Booster Gold was innovative, but now we have travel luggage that you can buy that is automated to roll by itself, that will follow your signal from a remote in your pocket at the airport! That is a robot butler if I've ever heard of one!
Complete with a back cover picture of the Superman Novel, my childhood edition and my introduction to the Booster Gold!
Grader Notes:
large bend center of front cover;
light cover tanning;
small chews right top of back cover;
small tape pull left bottom of front cover breaks color.

1st ever appearance of the Watchmen! Rorschach, Ozymandias, Dr Manhattan, Sill Spectre, and Nite Owl, with the death of the comedian! Woot Woot! This copper age classic comes home to roost! And the "heroes" need to go to therapy by stopping crime! I've got to give credit where due; this is well written. Other stories I've read of the Watchmen are hard to read, not because they're bad writing just real-life tough reads. The things written and sorrow or emotions expressed, man! Just because you know there is nothing new under the sun, but we ourselves can only humanly imagine based on experiences we have. Knowledge is a powerful thing, and some of the stories made me sad to know people suffer, maybe not quite to the extreme as portrayed. Man! It isn't easy describing what can go down by the minds of men, it can be sobering.
Complete with a back cover picture of the movie that was long and entailed some backwards type scenarios. Quite a theatrical experience that went on to be mentioned in the Big Bang Theory TV show and gave a glimpse into the Watchmen!

light spine stress lines to cover.

1st John Constantine in his own title. 1st appearance of Papa Midnite, Cedella, Mnemoth, Gary Lester & Chas Chandler. 1st's out the wazoo! Yee-haw! That is to say if a LCS (local comic shop) can get the skinny of a low down Hellblazer in 9.2, then I'm off to the races at $81 out the door. Is there a curve to the learning with these "issues or impulse buys?" None can take for granted the tutelage of "LIFE!" Lessons learned of patience that comes our way morbidly contained in these prints of ink! Constantine even made it to movies and airtime, and it is that which makes things set apart in this life for the MCU/DCU, and so on, market lead. Discernment needs to be in the one who guides and is not hidden. John Constantine troubles the air waves by making the left turn toward the light and right into tribulation. That is, we all know and love wisdom that comes by trials, however brief we are delivered out of them ALL! Indeed, these are the ways of "well doing" that we need to be diligent and faint not as in it is "the way!" Constantine wasn't actually baptized, which is to say he didn't enter the Church, until he was near death. At the time he was baptized Catholicism was the only game in town. So he was, in the end, a Christian, and since the only Christian group at the time was Catholicism, he was also a Catholic.
Complete with a back cover picture of the prescreen pass before released to theaters of, "Ready or Not!" A non-cult woman unknowingly marries into a cult family, that on the honeymoon has to play a game of hide and seek to survive being sacrificed to the devil and stay in the family. A twisted plot that goes to show the evil of such a belief and following. Stay washed in the Word of God and set apart, no bargaining for survival there.

light spine stress lines to cover.

1st appearance of Morpheus. Wesley Dodds cameo. Indeed, a hard look at Mysticism that is an advocate for knowing while NOT being able to know for certain, in short, it takes Faith to complete the equation. "Dreamer! Nothing but a dreamer, can you put your hands "in" your head? Oh No!?!" ~ Supertramp band! It wrestles with salvation but is certain that everyone has to work it out for themselves, in short, it is no one else's responsibility to come up with the solution for you. My view, do what makes you free, and if the Son make you free, you're free indeed for where the Spirit of the Lord is "there IS freedom!" Freedom in the certainty to know and be confident without wavering the complexity of morals of justification by Faith, needs not to be left to one's own capabilities, but to put that burden on One who is RIGHTEOUSLY ABLE. I know from test and trial it took Yeshua Jesus, the Christ, who is both Messiah and the Son of God, being God Himself, to die and be witnessed as risen! I have been satisfied that I need not look for "another!" What Joy in certainty for me, that this comic explores the pitfalls.
Complete with a back cover picture of the "Sand-Man" himself, doing his schtick to make us belly laugh like one closer than a brother, as I took my brother to see Adam Sandler do stand-up circa 2023. That's the eye on the prize rendition of "They're all going to Laugh at you!" We laughed WITH Him!
