Set Description:
My 34x Award-winning Collection of The Walking Dead Comics
Introduction to My Collection
I just love the AMC TV shows The Walking Dead (TWD), Fear the Walking Dead (FTWD) and Walking Dead: World Beyond (WDWB). My daughter prompted me to watch the first episode, and I was hooked. Since, I have watched every episode. It was the TWD TV show that led me to the comics. I have all the 309 comics in this set, and many of the international editions.
I also collect the coloured Deluxe editions (TWDD). I was SO happy to have a letter I had written feature in Letter Hacks of TWDD #67. It made me feel - officially - a small part of the TWD universe.
I live quite close to Charlie Adlard. In August 2019, I was invited to his comic art exhibition Drawn of the Dead, held at Shrewsbury Museum, UK. The photograph below shows me at the entrance to the exhibition.
I will present My Collection here in five sections as follows:
1. The TV Shows
2. The Comics
3. My CGC Collection
4. Autographs
- 4.1 TWD/TWDD comic book creative team
- 4.2 TWD show cast and crew
- 4.3 FTWD show cast and crew
- 4.4 Other artists and writers
5. My collecting objectives and additional notes
1. The TV Shows
In May 2017, I visited the show's Season 1, Episode 1 (101) Days Gone Bye filming location at Walton and Forsyth in downtown Atlanta GA. Shown in my photograph above (right), this is where the 'Rick/walkers/tank' scenes were filmed.
In January 2022, I visited Austin TX to see some of the FTWD season 4 sets including Lytton Springs General Store, Brackenridge Hospital, Lakeline (Brookview) Mall, and Dell Diamond. The same month, I went back to Atlanta to visit the CDC, Harrison Memorial Hospital (where Rick wakes up), the season 1 camp/quarry, iconic Jackson St. bridge, Rick and Lori's home, and Terminus (415, 501). I then stayed four days in Senoia (the show's Woodbury) to visit some of the season 2-11 filming locations including the Greene family's farm (202-13), Pudding House (409), Tunnel (415-6), Alexandria (seasons 5-11), Glenn's Dumpster (603), the Saviors Outpost (611-13), Hanging Man bridge (616), the bridge from Rick's final episode (905), the Covered Bridge (909), and Negan and Lucille's home from Here's Negan (1022).
In January 2023, I returned to Georgia to visit filming locations in Woodbury (Spike row, 915), Williams (Grafitti barn, 406), Griffin (Denise death, 614; and State Alley, 506, 614, 801, 812, 1123), Senoia (Alexandria gates and wall sections, Dwight and Sherry’s house, 711), Grantville (Morgan’s apartment Clear, 312), and Newnan (Woodbury Arena, 305; Beth’s hospital, 504/7/8; Walker herd quarry, 601; and the gas station from 101).
2. The Comics
I collect the Image/Skybound comics upon which the TV show is based. In my collection, I have every one of the 671 English-language editions of The Walking Dead comics, including the first, second and third printings, Wizard World and convention editions, Blind Bag editions, the 158 TWD 15th Anniversary Retailer/Store variant editions, and the Image+ comics featuring the Negan back story. In addition to those, I also have the 53 The Walking Dead Weekly comics, the four Survivor Guides and a large and growing collection of non-English-language versions of the comic.
On 7 October 2020, Image/Skybound launched The Walking Dead Deluxe (TWDD), the original comics reissued in full colour by Dave McCaig, released twice-monthly. I will collect selected issues from this series, including the #FoilFever issues of #1 and the first six covers - which have been drawn for the first time by Charlie Adlard.
My CGC journal is based on TWD #1. It provides a unique review of this iconic October 2003 comic, with analysis of its 269 variant and alternate covers, its prowess in the CGC Registry and in the re-sale market. I have now added sections on TWD #100 and its 20 variant covers as well as sections on TWD rarities and Skybound #FoilFever - see all four sections here.
In November 2019, I purchased my first original comic art. Shown below, it is from TWD comic issue 153, page 1 with pencils by Charle Adlard and inking by Stefano Gaudiano. Paula is seen joining Siddiq and Annie to discuss Negan's escape (as we will soon find out, he is on his way to sort out Alpha). Rick and Michonne arrive and decide what to do...
3. My CGC Collection
I am now working to complete my CGC-graded collection graded at 9.8 or in Signature Series (SS), which I present in this set 2003 Complete with Variants. Each comic has a detailed description, a summary of the story and photographs.

Story summary: Rick and Shane are cops. Rick gets shot while on duty. He wakes up in an abandoned hospital not knowing anything of the zombie apocalypse. As he makes his way back to his house to check on his family, he runs into Morgan Jones and his son Duane. It is Duane who whacks Rick in the face with a shovel thinking that he's a zombie. When Rick comes to, he gears himself up at his old police station to continue his search for Lori, his wife and Carl, his son. He arrives in Atlanta on horse, before being surrounded by 'Walkers'.
The print run on this comic was small. Of the 7,266 said to have been printed, 3379 (46.5% of the total on 28/11/2021) had been graded by CGC, mostly in grade 9.0 or higher. The highest graded copies on the census are at 9.9 (25 of). In March 2016, a 9.9 copy sold on eBay for a staggering $22,825. There is one copy graded at 0.5. Back in 2014, this copy sold on eBay for $756.
My CGC journal is based on TWD #1. It provides a unique review of this iconic October 2003 comic, with analysis of its 269 total variant and reprint covers, its prowess in the CGC Registry and in the re-sale market - see here.

Story summary: After traveling all night, Rick arrives in Georgia. He finds a petrol station and is frustrated that it's out of gas, just like the previous ones. He continues driving until he runs out. Continuing his journey on foot, he goes to inspect a nearby farm. After knocking on the door and receiving no answer, he enters the house. To his horror, he discovers the entire family are dead - having committed suicide. After rushing outside and vomiting, he goes to inspect the barn. There he finds a horse and a hatchet inside and continues traveling to Atlanta on horseback. On the way to Atlanta, he started rambling to the horse about when Carl was born to make him feel better, but it doesn't.
Rick finally makes it to Atlanta and initially finds it deserted. Some zombies spot him and start to follow him, with their numbers growing slowly but surely. It isn't long before Rick runs into a street full of zombies. He tries to turn around, but the way he came is blocked by zombies as well. He gets thrown from his horse and, as most of the zombies attack and devour the horse, others turn their attention to Rick. He uses the hatchet he found at the barn to protect himself, but is soon surrounded and begins to use his gun. He runs into an alley when suddenly, a young man named Glenn grabs Rick and tells him to follow him and to stop shooting. Glenn grabs the ladder to the fire escape and hurries Rick to follow him. Rick says he's never seen so many zombies, but Glenn assures him that's nothing and that, if he had gone fifty feet more into the city, he wouldn't have survived. They climb to a rooftop and Glenn proceeds to jump to the roof of the other building. Rick is hesitant, but jumps when he realises he has no choice. From that point they make it down the building and make a run for the woods, which are about a block away. Glenn says that the zombies are slow and that they should easily maneuver around them. He also warns that one bite from a walker will kill you.
The two finally make it to the edge of town near a wooded area. Glenn is surprised Rick is so inexperienced, but Rick explains that he was in a coma. Rick asks Glenn what happened to the people in Atlanta, and Glenn informs him the zombies were those people. Glenn explains that the government tried to herd everyone into the cities, but people started dying and turning into walkers. In the space of a week everyone in Atlanta had died. Rick falls to the ground as he fears that his wife and son are now dead. Glenn consoles Rick and tells him that he is with a small camp of people and brings him along. Glenn tells him the camp is mostly made up of latecomers who tried to get into Atlanta, but couldn't, so they set up camp in the woods. Rick asks if that's safe, but Glenn assures him they have cars for shelter and take turns keeping watch. He adds that they're camping close to the city as they figured it'd be easier for the government to find them when they stopped the outbreak. Just as Rick gets to the camp, he sees his wife, Lori Grimes, and his son, Carl. All three embrace, happy to be reunited.

Story summary: Shane comes to greet Rick. Rick is happy to see him and Lori says that Shane helped her and Carl escape to Atlanta. Shane shows Rick around the camp and introduces everyone. The young man that helped Rick in the city is Glenn. There is Allen and Donna and their twin boys, Ben and Billy, Dale (who owns the RV), Jim, Carol and her daughter Sophia, and sisters Amy and Andrea. Everyone leaves Rick and Lori to be reacquainted.
That night, Rick and Lori talk. Lori apologizes for leaving Rick at the hospital. He forgives her saying that he was happy that she was doing what was best for Carl. Rick asks if Dale is enough to keep watch. Lori begins explaining the situation of how very few zombies have come near them. Rick, finally thinking about the situation they are all in, admits that he is scared.
The next morning, Rick wakes up and meets Shane as he comes out of his tent. Shane mentions that Dale's camper has a working shower and he wants to go hunting with Rick after he takes one. Rick takes his shower and upon exiting, meets Dale. Dale tells Rick that he shouldn't trust Shane. He says Shane is a good man and helps out around the camp, but Shane isn't happy that Rick is back because he has had his eye on Lori. Rick appreciates Dale's concern, but reassures him that Shane was only keeping Lori and Carl safe. Rick laughs it off as he leaves the camper and heads off with Shane to hunt. Meanwhile, Lori, Carol, and Donna go down to a stream to wash clothes. The others stay at camp to watch the kids.
As Rick and Shane are hunting, Shane mentions to Rick that he is glad that he brought some guns. So far they only had Shane's side arm and Dale's rifle. It's been hard to hunt and they have only been eating what Glenn can get from his trips into the city. They hear a rustle and come across a zombie eating a deer. They note that it is oblivious to them standing there. They question whether it would be safe to eat the deer.
Back at the stream, Lori tells the story of how she met Rick to Carol and Donna. They finish the washing and head back to the camp. Just before they get to the camp, Allen, who is keeping watch on top of the camper, sees a walker right behind the women and yells for them to look out. Allen tries to shoot the walker, but Donna is in the way. Suddenly, Dale, who was out cutting firewood, comes up from behind and decapitates the zombie. They are relieved until they notice that the head of the walker is still sputtering and moaning. They are shocked to see it still alive.
Back at Rick and Shane's position, the two are debating taking the deer when the walker finally notices them. It starts to stand up but Rick impales it in the head with his axe. They suddenly hear a gunshot and run back to the camp. They get back to see that Allen has shot the head of the walker that attacked. Allen tells Dale that they should get the body into the woods and away from the camp. Rick immediately runs up to Lori and consoles her as Shane looks at the couple with jealousy.

Rick and Glenn return to Atlanta, and cover themselves in "guts".
This comic was signed by TWD creator Robert Kirkman on 12/10/2014 and subsequently graded into CGC's prestigious Signature Series.
CGC census 2/2021: 1043. 299 copies graded at @9.8, just 2 higher @9.9. There are 59 copies graded at 9.8SS.
CGC census 7/2022: 1092. 308 copies graded at @9.8, just 2 higher @9.9. There are still 59 copies graded at 9.8SS.
Story summary: That night, after the zombie attack, Shane is keeping watch. Rick visits with him and the two discuss the situation. Rick believes that the group needs to move on. He feels that it's too dangerous to be near Atlanta where so many zombies could attack the small group. Shane believes the group should stay put, believing that the government is coming to clean up the mess and if the group stays put, they will be easily found by rescuers. Rick finally concedes, but, says that they need to train everyone to use a gun and that everyone should be armed. Shane asks how they will get enough guns and Rick says that he will think of something.
The next morning, Rick talks to Glenn and asks him if he has seen any gun stores on his trips into Atlanta to get supplies. Glenn doesn't recall, but asks Jim who gives them the location of a store. Glenn goes to find his map, and while he's gone, Rick talks to Lori and tells her he is going to help Glenn get some guns. Lori isn't happy about it, but, he reassures her that he will be fine. He also mentions that he is going to teach Carl to shoot a gun, and before Lori can fight him on the subject, Rick and Glenn head into Atlanta for supplies.
As Rick and Glenn walk toward Atlanta, Rick asks about Jim's mental state. Glenn says that Jim is the only known survivor from Atlanta; he watched his family torn apart by zombies when he escaped. Glenn suddenly stops and says that the gun store is about five blocks further than he has ever gone into the city. He says there is no way the two can possibly do it. Rick says he has an idea and takes Glenn to the walker he killed the day before. Rick says he notices that zombies don't mistake themselves for a living person, and he believes the reason is smell. Rick chops up parts of the zombie and tells Glenn to rub it on his clothes and put a few pieces in his pockets. Rick hopes that by smelling like the zombies, the zombies won't attack them. The two proceed into the city limits.
As soon as they arrive, they walk up to a zombie, to see how well the theory works. At first it appears that the zombie is going to attack Rick, but it settles down as Rick moves back. As they walk further in to the city, they notice that none of the zombies come after them. Rick also mentions how it is a gloomy day. The zombies on the streets don't attack them either and Glenn notices the zombies don't seem to be alerted by them talking. Rick supposes that they can't tell the difference between grunts and conversation.
They arrive at the gun store to see a large crowd of zombies. Rick tells Glenn to remain calm and grabs a shopping cart to carry more guns. He uses his hatchet to break in and tells Glenn to hurry as the zombies are starting to notice they're acting different. They grab as many guns and ammunition as they can and exit. As they do, Rick mentions that it is starting to rain. A zombie starts to approach them but Rick kills it with his hatchet. It begins to downpour and the two start to run as the rain begins to wash away the zombie smell. The dead now take notice of Rick and Glenn and attempt to attack them. The cart crashes and Rick begins shooting the zombies while Glenn picks the guns up. A zombie bites at Rick's shoulder but he manages to kill it, and the pair are able to continue their escape. The two get outside of the city limits and Rick tears off his jacket, relieved to see that the roamer did not break his skin. Rick asks Glenn not to tell Lori about their close encounter.
Meanwhile back at camp, Shane and Lori are talking. Shane tries to console Lori, saying that Rick will be fine. He tells her to come back to the camp, and that he will keep her company. Lori refuses Shane and tells him that he needs to stop trying to make advances at her since Rick is back. Shane says, "But what about that night when we were on the road down here?" Lori, her back to Shane, says, "That night was a mistake."

CGC census 11/2023: 1040. 289 @9.8 including 44 SS examples, none higher.
Story summary: Three weeks after getting the guns, Rick and Shane are teaching everyone how to shoot. Everyone is impressed with Andrea's skill. Both Rick and Shane agree that she is possibly the best shot of the group. Rick also insists on teaching Carl, despite Lori's disapproval. After Rick announces to everyone that Carl will be carrying his own gun, Rick and Lori have a fight.
When everyone makes it back to camp, Donna shows her disgust of Andrea and Amy sleeping in the camper with Dale. A couple of days later, Rick, Shane, and Dale go to get firewood and they talk about the girls living with Dale. Rick says how he sees nothing wrong with it; Dale says that nothing is going on. He says that the two simply keep things clean, and give him some comfort since his wife passed away a couple months ago. After Rick mentions how cold it's getting, Shane yells at him, saying how tired he is of hearing Rick talk. Rick is left shocked, and Shane leaves with firewood. Dale tells Rick that Shane has issues.
That night they talk about what they did before the outbreak. Dale mentions that he was a salesman, now retired, on the road with his wife. After the outbreak, she died, and afterward he found Amy and Andrea. Andrea mentions she was a clerk at a law firm and was driving Amy back to college. Glenn was a pizza delivery boy. Allen says that he was a shoe salesman supporting the rest of the family. Jim simply says he was a mechanic. Rick and Shane recount their stories, and Carol mentions that she used to sell tupperware and her husband was a car salesman, who had killed himself after watching his parents die in front of him. Amy goes to the RV to use the bathroom when she is attacked by a roamer, which bites her in the neck. The survivors are suddenly invaded by zombies. Lori is nearly killed by a roamer, but is saved when Carl shoots it. Jim launches into a rage and attacks a roamer, while yelling that it killed his family. When all the zombies are killed, Andrea shoots Amy in the head in order to prevent reanimation. It is then revealed that Jim received a bite to his arm, while killing the zombie.
Trivia: Reggie's death marks the first character to die in the comic series. This issue was released only 4 days after the previous issue #4, making it the fastest released issue.

Amy’s funeral
Death of Jim
Death of Shane Walsh (shot by Carl)
TWD #6. This comic was signed by Robert Kirkman (creator and writer) in gold ink and Tony Moore (co-creator, cover and art) in silver ink, both on 29 July 2013. It was subsequently graded into the prestigious CGC Signature Series. Both signatures are considered perfectly placed within the black area of the cover.
This edition marked the end of regular Tony Moore interior art; Charlie Adlard took over this starting from issue 7, though Tony continued the covers up to issue #24.
CGC census 12/2018: 953. 256 @9.8, none higher.
CGC census 11/2023: 1104. 290 @9.8 including 41 SS specimens, none higher.
Story summary: The survivors hold a funeral for Amy. Shane says he loved Amy because she always had something to say. Donna also says how Amy and her may have not gotten along, but she loved her. She states how she loves everyone and that everyone loved Amy, especially. Jim has perhaps his biggest speech and says nobody deserves to die like this and that she should have lived her life and went to college. Rick and Dale also bring forth their sadness. While everybody leaves, Andrea is still crying over Amy's grave.
Jim's health starts to deteriorate after being bitten by a zombie during the camp attack. Jim tells Donna about his garage boss, who he says was the first person he saw who turned. Jim thinks he's lucky because his boss turned in a couple of hours. Donna suggests that maybe it won't happen to Jim and then exits the tent where Jim is incapacitated. Allen asks how he is, and Donna says that he's worse. She says Dale's wife, Erma turned in half a day. Lastly, they both think it might not happen to him.
Meanwhile Rick, Carl, and Shane go hunting and Carl tells Rick that they don't need as much food, because Amy is dead and Jim is too sick to eat. Shane yells at Rick saying it wasn't his fault. Rick tells him they should have left the camp when they had a chance. Shane still thinks that the army will save them. Carl is seen crying and runs off. Rick goes after him. Meanwhile, Dale is trying to cheer Andrea up, and Donna tells everyone Jim's request. They bring him to Atlanta and leave him under a tree where he tells them to leave him, and that maybe he will meet his family once again. They say their goodbyes and then depart.
The following day they wake up and Shane tells Rick to get ready to go hunting. Rick tells Carl to stay behind so that he and Shane can talk. Shane starts yelling at Rick and punches him. Lori then punches Shane, which causes Shane to mentally snap and run off. Rick goes to follow Shane, and Carl follows his father in turn. Dale asks Lori if she is okay, and she replies, saying that they'll never be normal again at this rate. Rick catches up to Shane and Shane starts yelling at Rick about how he can't live like this anymore and goes off ranting about how he has nothing left and how Lori would have changed and loved him if Rick hadn't returned. Shane then points his gun at Rick, and is about to shoot him when Carl shoots Shane in the neck. Shane dies, choking on his own blood. The book ends with Carl saying: "It's not the same as killing the dead ones, Daddy", and Rick replying, "It never should be, son. It never should be."

Story summary: A flashback is shown with Lori, waiting outside the city where her parents lived. She is confronted by Shane, and she confides in him how horrible she feels leaving Rick in the city. After a short conversation, Lori and Shane kiss, and she says that she "needs him." The two of them end up having sex.
Back to the present, the survivors are burying Shane. As the rest of the group leaves, Lori stays behind and spits on Shane's grave. Allen and Rick talk about Shane, with Rick worried about what the apocalypse is doing to their mental state, lamenting how much it changed Shane. Rick goes to ask Dale about Andrea. The two proceed to talk about Shane, with Dale not being surprised that their former leader snapped, as he's been changing ever since Rick arrived to the camp, adding that Shane was in love with Lori (which Rick is aware of). Dale proceedes to inform Rick that everyone at the camp thinks Rick is best suited for leadership. Rick accepts and tells Dale they will be moving the camp tomorrow. Dale mentions that, according to Andrea's calendar, it's Christmas. Rick angrily tells him to keep it a secret, as he doesn't want to have to explain to Carl why "Santa can't find him".
In the morning, as everyone is packing, Rick wakes Carl up and tells him that if he ever wants to talk about what happened, he can talk to him. The group then departs their camp using the RV. They continue on their journey until they need to clear some cars that are blocking the road. When they finish, they spot some figures approaching from the darkness. Rick pulls out his gun. but the figures turn out to be three survivors. One of them introduces himself as Tyreese, and introduces the other two as his daughter Julie and her boyfriend Chris. Tyreese asks if Rick has any food, as they ran out a couple of days ago. After feeding the family, Rick offers them room to sleep in the RV with the group and tag along in the morning if they want. Tyreese thanks him, but says they will be sleeping in the car for tonight, as Julie and Chris aren't too comfortable around strangers. Lori criticizes Rick for inviting a stranger to sleep in the same room as them. Rick stresses that Tyreese has kids with him, but Lori points out that they do as well, and tells Rick not to be so trusting.
The next morning, Tyreese apologizes to Rick about not trusting him enough to sleep in the RV. Rick understands, as the apocalypse changes people. He recounts how Shane, who was his best friend, tried to kill him a few days ago, Tyreese, in turn, tells Rick about the time they went to scavenge in a grocery store. A man, who was really nice and sweet before the apocalypse, attempted to rape Julie. However, he was able to kill the man before he could rape her. Rick doesn't judge Tyreese, and says anyone would have done that. Tyreese says he's beating himself up because he doesn't feel any guilt from it and the apocalypse has changed him. Suddenly, the two discover roamers. Tyreese marvels about the name 'roamer', and Rick explains they are zombies who just roam around, and killed Amy and Jim.
Tyreese and Rick take their primary weapons; hammer and hatchet. They trick the zombies, Rick takes one of them and Tyreese takes the other one. They beat them to death and say the situation is under control. They return to the RV and Rick tells Dale to drive around so they could look for some empty houses to stay in. Suddenly, they discover a crashed car in the road. Rick thinks they have to start moving it aside if they want to get to safety before dark.
Rick reveals he's glad they bumped into Tyreese and his family. They came in handy, especially because Tyreese is strong. Carol and Tyreese are having some eye contact.
At night, Tyreese says the people have a lot of food. Rick says he has to thank Glenn about it. He says he was just doing his part, but, Carol thinks they'd be much worse off without him. Tyreese agrees, he and Carol hold hands, and Glenn seems awful. Rick thinks it's honorable that Glenn risks his life for others and supplies.
While Rick is talking about finding Lori and Carl, Lori walks away. Rick catches her and asks what is wrong. Lori reveals that she is pregnant.

Dale suggests Lori's baby might be Shane's.
Indicia error reads: 7/04.
I have two copies of this comic; a CGC 9.8, and a CGC 8.5 SS signed by Charlie Adlard.
CGC census 12/2018: 768. 435 copies in 9.8, 8 higher (1 @Gem 10).
Story summary: Lori has told Rick she's pregnant. Rick asks if she is sure, and she confirms she is. Rick asks what they're going to do, and Lori says she's asking him.
Allen asks if everything was okay, and Lori tells them all she's pregnant. Everyone is speechless and Allen says he doesn't know what to say. Rick sarcastically states "Congratulations has worked for years." Allen apologizes and states his worry about giving birth in a world without doctors and hospitals, but Rick assures that this is still good news.
While Rick is extinguishing the fires, Dale comes to talk to him. Dale confides to Rick that he thinks the baby might be Lori and Shane's. Rick asks Dale to drop it. Dale reminds Rick that he has been with them little over a month, and Rick yells at him not to say another word. Rick says they have had sex once and he can't dwell on it or his mind will go crazy. Dale apologizes and hugs him, recommending to get some rest.
At the road, they find a house but it is burned. Rick says they have to leave. Later, while Glenn is filling the gas tank, Dale screams and falls down in front of a frozen zombie. Dale confirms he's not bitten, and Andrea runs to Dale and hugs him, glad to see he is unharmed. The frozen zombie moves and Glenn gets scared. Rick kills the zombie and concludes that the zombies freeze faster than normal humans. Lori and Carol talk about food, on which they're running short. Carol asks if Lori is worried about having a baby, and Lori doesn't deny that she is. Suddenly, Rick orders Dale to pull over.
The group come across a neighborhood enclosed by a fence, titled "Wiltshire Estates". Rick thinks it could serve as a permanent sanctuary. The group proceeds to inspect the immediate area, then the first floor of a house. Rick and Tyreese go to inspect the rest. While Tyreese doesn't find any roamers on the second floor, Rick gets attacked by two zombies when he opens the basement door. He gets pinned to the floor, but Tyreese rescues him by tackling one of the zombies. After they kill the undead assailants and clear out the basement, Rick thanks Tyreese and asks where he learned to tackle like that, prompting Tyreese to reveal he was in the NFL. Donna discovers the kitchen is packed with canned goods, with Rick concluding that the looting must have happened early on, when people were stealing TVs instead of food.
Due to a broken window on the ground level, the group is forced to sleep on the second floor. After dividing up the rooms, they go to bed. Rick and Lori are happy to be out of the RV, and proceed to talk about Lori's pregnancy. They are interrupted by Donna, who gives them an extra blanket. Donna also gives some blankets to Tyreese, and goes to give one to Andrea and Dale when she discovers the two having sex. Afterwards, she goes to bed with Allen. Though she still disproves of their relationship, she admits she is happy for Dale and Andrea. Allen notes that the snow is starting to melt. Outside, a snow covered sign thaws and reveals the words: “ALL DEAD DO NOT ENTER”.

Story summary: Rick wakes up in the new place the group has found, Wiltshire Estates. Rick calls for Lori, and she tells him to be quiet so Carl won't wake up. Lori tells Rick she's been up a while. Rick says that the deaths of Jim, Amy, and Shane must be hard on Carl. Lori exclaims she is sad that her baby will not know anything about the world they used to know, and Carl won't get a driver license or take a girl to a movie. Lori asks Rick if they'll ever be able to fix everything, but, Rick doesn't know. Meanwhile, Carol and Tyreese get closer.
Donna is thinking about Dale and Andrea. She thinks they both have something in common, that they both lost someone important. It gives Donna hope when she sees them together. Lastly, she says they are really lucky and thinks she could be happy in their new home. Allen asks if she wants to have sex, and Billy and Ben look over at them and Billy asks, "What's a 'segs'?". Donna thinks that answered his question.
In the morning, Rick tells everyone to search the houses, and clear any possible zombies and search for food and supplies. They could also find more people hiding in the houses. Julie and Chris are staying in another house, and Rick thinks Andrea could stay with the children. Rick gathers up the teams and goes to get Tyreese a gun from the RV.
Rick goes to get Tyreese a gun from the RV, and Allen hopes the houses are empty. Tyreese goes with Carol to see the yard of the house. Donna wants to take a peek inside the house. Allen tells her to be careful, but she tells him he worries too much while, unbeknownst to her, a roamer approaches from the house. Suddenly, Rick discovers a fallen sign at the entrance, which reads "ALL DEAD DO NOT ENTER". He starts to run back into Wiltshire.
Meanwhile, Donna gets bitten near her eye by a roamer. Everyone returns and Rick tells everyone not to use their guns. Allen tells the roamers to go away, but, Tyreese captures him and tells him there's nothing he can do. Allen starts to yell, and shoots with his pistol. The shots get the zombies attention, as Donna is devoured.
Rick tells everyone to leave, and goes to get Allen. Rick tells him to leave the place, but, Allen wants to stay. Rick tells him to think about his children, and if they don't leave now, they're both dead. Allen comes into his sense and is ready to leave. Tyreese goes to get Dale and the others, and tells them to get their children. Tyreese runs upstairs to get Julie and Chris, and catches them trying to have sex.
Rick takes Allen into the RV, and tells Lori that Donna is dead. Rick goes after Tyreese, and is able to get to the house. Tyreese tells Chris and Julie to get their clothes on. Rick gets to the house and tells him they can't get out downstairs. Tyreese yells they have to go through the window. They discover the ground floor is full of zombies, and Dale drives his RV through the zombie horde. Rick and the rest jump onto the RV's roof. The twins ask about the location of their mother. Allen starts to cry and tells them she's dead. The party stops for gas and Rick says he doesn't know what to say. Allen says he doesn't have to say anything.
Rick is worried about Allen, and Dale says they can't bring Donna back, and tells him to let Allen mourn. Dale knows how losing a wife feels like. Lori says they're almost out of everything. Carol wishes they could have picked up some food from Wiltshire. Rick, Glenn, and Tyreese are checking a food shop, but, they find nothing. Rick thinks they have to start hunting.
Rick tells the others that they have to get back before dark, even if they don't find food. If they hear a shot, Tyreese, Rick, and Carl will come back as fast as they can. Carl wants to come too, and Rick tells him not to shoot unless he says so. Rick tells Lori she should keep an eye on Allen, he's worried he will hurt himself, or worse.
Tyreese asks what Rick thinks about Allen and Rick tells him what Allen was doing in Wiltshire, and doesn't know what's going through his mind. Rick doesn't know what to think after what happened to Shane. Tyreese tells him he heard the story from Carol. Rick overhears a voice and thinks somebody is after them, and just then, a bullet goes through Carl.
Carl falls down much to Rick's shock and horror. Tyreese asks who's shooting at them. A man, named Otis, appears and tells them it was an accident. Rick believes that Carl is dead and becomes erratically aggressive towards Otis, as he apologizes to him. Rick points his gun into his cheek and screams that he's going to kill him.

Story summary: After Carl is shot, Tyreese tells Rick, who is about to kill Otis for accidentally shooting Carl, that he is still alive. Rick asks what they are going to do now and Tyreese tells him they have to stop the bleeding. Rick says they have to get back to Dale's RV, but Otis says he lives on a farm where the owner would be able to treat his son. Rick asks if he is able to treat Carl and Otis says the farmer isn't a doctor, but he can do something. Otis says they should be able to get there quickly by foot. Rick and Tyreese roll Carl in Rick's coat, and Otis tells Tyreese where the farm is. Rick tells Tyreese to tell Lori there is nothing to worry about. Rick, Carl, and Otis head to the farm.
Tyreese arrives at the RV and tells everyone to start moving. Meanwhile, Rick and Otis arrive at the farm. The farm owner tells everyone to get inside when he hears the news. While Otis and the farm owner are patching Carl up, everyone else arrives. Lori runs for Rick, and he says at least the bleeding has stopped. The farm owner, introduced as Hershel Greene, explains that Carl is unconscious, but still in good shape.
Inside the farm, Hershel tells everyone they are welcome until the boy heals. Hershel introduces his family and friends; oldest son Arnold, oldest daughter Lacey, another daughter Maggie, youngest son Billy, and twin daughters Rachel and Susie Greene. Also in the farm resides Otis and his girlfriend Patricia. Hershel asks Lacey to show the guests where they can stay. Allen announces that Billy, Ben, and himself are going to sit this one out, and Andrea says she can take care of the boys by showing them the cows.
Lori and Rick are watching Carl. Lori wishes that Carl could have a break from all of the madness that is going on. Rick thinks he wants him to sleep through the apocalypse, but Lori says they don't want him to be in coma. Rick says that wasn't what he meant, he doesn't want Carl to go through all the things that they go through. Lastly Rick says he's worried about him. Lori and Rick start to hug and tell each other they love each other.
Tyreese goes to talk to Otis, who's very worried about Carl. Otis says he wouldn't hurt a fly, but, Tyreese says what is done is done. Tyreese says Rick has been under a lot of stress, recounting Donna's death at Wiltshire Estates, telling him Carl's shooting just made him snap. Otis recounts his experiences with Wiltshire as well, having barely made it out alive. He mentions the possibility of Atlanta being another safe haven, but, Tyreese tells him otherwise, based off the experience of other camp members.
Andrea finds Allen watching over Ben and Billy, and she tells them to go play with Carol and Sophia. She starts to talk about his children, what he should think of instead of shutting down. Allen angrily tells her she doesn't understand his grief at losing Donna so recently. Andrea reminds Allen about her losses, saying knows something about the grieving process. She tells him she's just trying to help, calling him an asshole. Allen once again responds by noting his wife has just died. Now agitated as well, Andrea reminds him about her parents, Jim and Shane, and tells him that the group's all been dealing with the same losses. Allen says he's thinking about his children and how they will grow up without their mother. Allen tells Andrea to leave.
Hershel awakens Rick and tells him that his son is awake. Lori and Rick run to their son. Carl asks where his hat is. Rick asks if he feels any pain, and Carl notes his shoulder hurts. Lori tells him he's going to be okay. Carl says nobody better take his hat. Tyreese arrives to Carl's room and gives Carl his hat. Tyreese tells Rick that Otis is very sorry. While discussing Otis, Carl asks if someone shot him. Rick explains everything, and Carl says he's happy to meet new people. Carol and Sophia arrive in Carl's room. Everyone leaves Carl and Sophia alone. Sophia states she's happy that Carl is okay, and kisses him on the cheek.
Dale takes Lori outside to talk. Dale says Rick is the backbone of the group, and that he's the one stable thing they have, and that they need him. Dale says he doesn't know if the baby is Rick's or Shane's but tells Lori not to tell Rick about this, because otherwise he might crack. He takes his leave for dinner, Lori silently taking in his words.
At the dinner table, Rick says to Hershel he's got quite the set-up here, noting how Tyreese probably felt when he bumped into Rick's group and saw their canned food. Lori says she's going to take a plate for Carl before all the food has gone. Tyreese jokes that the next guy he bumps into is going to be running a restaurant. While small talking, Glenn watches Carol jealously.
Outside, Maggie asks Glenn why he watches Carol all the time. Glenn says he had his eyes on her before Tyreese arrived. Maggie guesses she's pretty, but Glenn clarifies by saying there's not many women left on the planet, and he wants to have sex at least couple of times before his death. Lastly, he notes he doesn't even know Maggie. Maggie says she'll have sex with Glenn. Glenn is confused, and Maggie explains her boyfriend is probably dead. Maggie asks again if he wants to have sex. Glenn does.
While Glenn and Maggie are leaving, Tyreese catches Julie and Chris grabbing each other behind the house. Julie, surprised to see him, calls out to him in a welcoming manner. Tyreese tells Julie not to "Dad" him, and tells them not to have sex, and reminds them what would happen if Julie gets pregnant. Tyreese leaves, and Chris tells Julie that he doesn't want to wait forever.
Hershel tells Rick about his former life before the zombie-apocalypse. Hershel grew up with his father at the farm, but always wanted to be a veterinarian. Hershel tells Rick about his wife who passed away almost six years ago, and that his father's last wish was that Hershel could take care of the farm. Again, Hershel reminds Rick that he and the others can sleep in the RV, but Rick asks what about the barn. Hershel says he doesn't want to go there; that's where they keep all their dead ones.

Death of Arnold and Lacey Greene.
Signed by Robert Kirkman on 11/10/2009. This comic has been encapsulated as part of CGC's prestigious Signature Series.

Story summary: A shocked Rick asks Hershel what he means by "dead ones" in response to him saying he keeps them in the barn. Hershel tells him he's been storing the undead in the barn until he can figure out how to deal with them, asking how Rick's group has been dealing with them. Rick outright tells him he's been killing them, and an intense fundamental argument ensues. Hershel proclaims nobody understands what's going on, Rick countering that they do know the undead are trying to eat them and it's dangerous to keep them so close to his house. He goes on, saying they should kill every zombie in the barn before they kill them. Hershel exclaims his son Shawn was bitten and turned before their arrival (the events that took place in The Walking Dead Video Game) and, not knowing what else to do, he kept him and all other undead they found in the barn. A sympathetic Rick tells Hershel the zombie in the barn is not his son. Hershel furiously knocks him back, reiterating they don't understand the outbreak and that it could be anything, while Rick continues to argue the opposite. Eventually, Tyreese steps in and calms Rick down. Hershel assures Rick it's completely safe, and Rick hesitantly backs down.
Later that night, Allen is sitting outside the RV when Rick finds him and begins talking about his state of mind. Allen tells Rick he's been thinking about Donna, claiming he heard her voice the previous night. Rick consoles him, but, to no significant avail. As they talk, Glenn spots them and pretends to be out for air, secretly meeting up with Maggie as the two go off together during Rick and Allen's chat.
The next morning, Rick meets up with Hershel and apologizes for their heated argument the previous day, Hershel accepts this and moves on. Rick offers him some extra guns and ammunition, which Hershel appreciates. They also have planned some basic gun training for everyone.
Inside the house, Andrea attempts to reconcile with Allen, who angrily rebuffs her offer. Dale starts to mouth him off, but, Andrea stops him, she apologizes to Allen and leaves. Rick talks to Tyreese and Carol about their kids and carrying guns. The survivors are later outdoors shooting cans as targets, but, Hershel stops them, because they are shooting at the Thompson's house, which was on the other side of the fence.
A zombie then appears, and Hershel takes hold of it and attempts to force it inside the barn. However, a large zombie was leaning against the door and knocks both Hershel and the other zombie to the ground. The door ajar, zombies begin spilling out of the barn. Arnold saves his father from an attack, but is bitten by zombie-Shawn in the process. Lacey is devoured by a group of zombies as well. Upon seeing this, Hershel has a change of heart and joins Rick's group in putting down the zombies, killing Shawn, Arnold, and Lacey. Hershel puts the gun to his head and is about to pull the trigger when Rick stops him.
The devastated group holds a funeral service for all the dead, where Hershel acknowledges that Rick was right about the undead. Julie and Chris go to Tyreese, asking him if they should return the guns from the practice. For their safety, Tyreese says they should hold onto them, but be very careful. They go off on their own and talk about completing some plan using the guns.

The survivors leave the farm and find the prison.
CGC census 2/2019: 502. 300 in 9.8, 5 higher (5 @9.9).
Story summary: Rick, Carl and and Lori wake up. Lori shows more signs of morning sickness. Hershel walks in on Maggie and Glenn sleeping together and becomes irate, insulting Maggie and threatening Glenn. Maggie defends Glenn and herself, leaving Hershel to storm out.
The group unpacks the RV in preparation for moving into Hershel's barn, now that the zombies have been cleared out. Dale reminisces about his experiences in the RV with his dead wife Erma, comforting Andrea and telling her he does truly love her.
Rick and Allen are cleaning out the barn, and Rick asks about Allen's condition. Allen says he's not doing well but genuinely appreciates Rick's concern. He will try his best for the kids and for Donna. Rick quickly gives up on clearing out the barn and goes to convince Hershel to let them stay in the house. Rick proposes the idea of his group moving into the house, but Hershel denies and says once Carl is healed, they'll have to leave.
Carol and Tyreese are cuddled together and talking to each other, with Julie and Chris looming in the shadows, undoubtedly thinking about enacting their plan mentioned previously.
After learning what Hershel said, Lori confronts him and demands they be allowed to stay. The argument reaches a head and Hershel is about to slap her when Rick intervenes. Hershel furiously proclaims he's lost his children and tells them he doesn't owe them anything, calling them out as freeloaders. Rick and Lori continue to make the case, offering up their help to improve the farm as well, Lori breaking down into tears. As Rick goes to comfort her, Hershel points a gun to Rick's head and tells them all to leave. Otis quickly intervenes, but Hershel maintains his stance. Rick and his group leave. Otis later finds Hershel huddled in his room. Hershel informs him he would have shot Rick and that he may have lost his mind.
As Rick's group prepares to leave, Glenn informs them he's remaining with Maggie on the farm, having worked it out with Hershel.
The group is on the road once again and in dire straits, with little food, protection from the zombies and the weather and eventually running out of gas. Dale and Andrea stumble upon an incredible find and summon Rick. Over the hill, they see a prison with lots of zombies outside. A smile on his face, Rick says "It's perfect. We're home."
