This 1st issue includes a great story of Kiss in battle with Doctor Doom. This issue is also famous for its red cover that had the blood of Kiss members added to the red ink before being printed.

"Close Encounters of the Third Kind"
movie adaptation.
Marvel Comics Super Special issue 3 published in 1978 and was the 1st issue of the series to feature a direct movie adaptation - which was Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
This was written by Archie Goodwin with art by Walter Simonson and Klaus Janson. Cover was by Bob Larkin.
This adaptation deviates a fair amount from the film. I recall reading an account from Walter Simonson a long time ago that Marvel was not authorized to use the exact likenesses of certain actors and that they were not given enough references for this particular adaptation. I still enjoyed it regardless because I am such a huge fan of the original film.

KISS. Formerly Marvel Comics Super Special.
Includes KISS poster & Marvel bullpen biographies.
Marvel Super Special issue 5 was published in 1978 and was the 3rd comic to feature the band Kiss (as their 1st comic appearance was in the title Howard the Duck which was followed by Marvel Comics Super Special issue 1 in 1977).
This issue was written by Ralph Macchio. Interior art was by John Romita Jr. and Tony DeZuniga. Cover was by Bob Bob Larkin.
I definitely enjoyed reading this issue. However, Marvel Comics Super Special issue 1 featured Doctor Doom and is therefore my favorite of the two.

"Jaws 2" movie adaptation.
Marvel Super Special issue 6 was published in 1978 and featured the movie adaptation of Jaws 2.
As far as I am aware, there was no movie comic of the original Jaws film (which is a total classic). Jaws 2 may not be as famous but still has some extreme scenes that include a bigger shark (25 feet long vs 20 feet long) taking down a helicopter and also not be affected by fire injuries (maybe just made the shark more mean). When I first saw this film, this shark was the ultimate harbinger of impending doom.
Story was adapted by Rick Marschall. Interior art was by Gene Colan and Tom Palmer. Cover art was by Bob Larkin.

"Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"
movie adaptation. Photo cover.
Marvel Super Special issue 7 was not available to the English reading market. Hence, Foreign copies are incredibly sought after.
I have actually owned three copies of the French version of this book. Two copies were in such poor condition that they could not be sent for grading (or their grades would have been less than 4.0). A copy I purchased from a seller back in 2020 said that the copy was “absolutely mint” for which it was definitely NOT and it graded as a 6.0.
This particular copy in 8.0 was from an eBay listing and was not my own submission. I suspect that this book will NOT be upgraded within my lifetime – because I really have not had any luck trying to buy raw copies. ??
This is an adaptation of the movie Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Band that starred the Bee Gees . From the Marvel Fandom Website "This issue was unreleased in the United States. It is only known from foreign language editions, in French (for the French market and one for the French-speaking Canadian market) and in Dutch." I have been trying to find a high grade copy of this comic for years.
This comic was written by David Kraft and Dwight Jon Zimmerman. It has a lot of differences from the original movie because the writers were not given access to the most recent script. It was illustrated by George Pérez and Jim Mooney.

"Battlestar Galactica" adaptation. Dave Cockrum frontispiece. John Dykstra interview. Centerfold pin-up.
Marvel Super Special issue 8 featured an adaptation of the Battlestar Galactica TV pilot episodes titled "Saga of a Star World".
Some differences in the story were evident (like some of the earlier movie adaptation issues) based on an early script and included some distinct differences from what was televised. Differences provided by the Battlestar Fan Wiki included: Baltar was executed by the Cylons (this also happened in the theatrical release of the pilot), Lyra (Serina) was told that she was dying from radiation sickness (this ended up happening in later TV episodes), Cassiopeia did not survive the Ovion mines (this was a major change in my opinion), and in the final scene, Lyra said good-bye to Apollo.
This adaptation was written by written by Roger McKenzie and illustrated by Ernie Colón. The cover was Illustrated by Bob Larkin.

Marvel Super Special issue 10 published in Winter (March) 1979.
This issue featured an early appearance of Starlord (Peter Quill) in a science fiction type adventure with a huge lightyear-long space ark led by a man named Noah (I know this sounds a bit familiar :) ).
This issue was written by Doug Moench with another story by Marc Dacy. The main story was illustrated by Gene Colan and Tom Palmer. The back-up story was illustrated by Ernie Colon. The cover was illustrated by Earl Norem.

"Meteor" movie adaptation.
Marvel Super Special issue 14 was an adaptation of the film titled "Meteor" from 1979.
"Meteor" was a disaster film similar to "Deep Impact" and "Armageddon " films which followed about two decades later. Sean Connery played a scientist working with both the US and Russia to prevent a massive catastrophe.
The adaptation was by Ralph Macchio with interior art by Gene Colan and Tom Palmer. The cover was by a very young Frank Miller (the cover is not distinctive with his more well-known art styles).
Before this issue, the Marvel Super Special series only featured adaptations of films by exception. However, with this issue, the series became almost exclusively film adaptations.

"Star Trek: The Motion Picture" movie adaptation.
Marvel Super Special issue 15 was an adaptation of Star Trek the Motion Picture.
Although many say that Star Trek the Motion Picture was not the strongest film in the series, it featured the very interesting premise of V'ger - which happened to be fictional sixth probe of the Voyager NASA programme. One of my previous professors (Dr. Gary Flandro - Emeritus Professor of the University of Tennessee Space Institute) designed the trajectories for the two probes that were launched into space (in real life to be known as Voyagers 1 and 2).
This copy is graded at 9.6 and I suspect that I will NEVER find an upgrade. I have purchased bulk lots of what were described as high grade copies only to find that they all had bindery tears or other defects that were hard to see from online pictures.
This issue was adapted by Marv Wolfman with interior art by: Dave Cockrum and Klaus Janson. The cover art was by Bob Larkin.
