"Out Of The Holocaust--a Hero!", script by Roy Thomas, pencils by Gene Colan, inks by Vince Colletta; 3rd app. of Captain Marvel; Continued from Marvel Super-Heroes #13; With the Sentry rampaging across the Cape, Captain Mar-Vell decides that the Sentry's rampage would jeopardize his mission to learn all he can about the human race, and suspects that the Sentry's revival is due to Yon-Rogg's tampering; As Captain Mar-Vell (whose name is believed to be "Captain Marvel" to those at the Cape) protects the base (and more specifically security officer Carol Danvers) from the Sentry's rampage, aboard the Kree ship above Earth, Una tries to free herself; Unable to do so, she settles for listening to the reports given by her robot, which is linked into the battle computers; While this is occurring, the landlord at the hotel Mar-Vell is staying at, suspicious that Mar-Vell may be a foreign spy, snoops around Mar-Vell's room for proof; Finding Mar-Vell's carrying case, he sets off a device inside.

"From The Void Of Space Comes," script by Roy Thomas, pencils by Gene Colan, inks by Vince Colletta; Skrull emperor Dorrek VII has become aware of recent activity on Earth involving the Skrull's age old enemies the Kree, most notably the recent activation of the Kree Sentry; Seeking to find out the truth of the Kree's involvement on Earth, Dorrek calls the Super-Skrull back to the Skrull home world from his exile after his last defeat at the hands of the Fantastic Four; The Super-Skrull is ordered to find out what their enemies are up to, and kill Mar-Vell; The reward for success would be anything the Super-Skrull desired; Wanting to be married to the emperors daughter Anelle, the Super-Skrull accepts the mission and returns to Earth; There, Mar-Vell has just returned from his battle against the Sentry to find that his carrying bag has been stolen from his room. Suspecting the owner of the hotel, and fearing that tampering may have activated the self-destruct mechanism on it, Mar-Vell rushes out to find the hotel owner; The owner himself is on his way to the Cape with to turn over to the military there.

"From the Ashes of Defeat!", script by Roy Thomas, pencils by Gene Colan and Roy Thomas (zip-a-tone effects), inks by Vince Colletta and Roy Thomas; Captain Marvel is now the prisoner of the Super-Skrull, who takes Mar-Vell aboard his ship in order to probe his mind and learn why the Kree are so interested in the planet Earth; In doing so he learns about Mar-Vell's mission and his recent battle against the Kree Sentry, his identity as Walter Lawson, and his carrying case with the self-destruct mechanism; Mar-Vell manages to break free and escape the Super-Skrull's ship and return to his own ship; There when Yon-Rogg refuses to grant Mar-Vell permission to go back to Earth and stop the Super-Skrull and save the Earth from nuclear holocaust, Mar-Vell petitions the Imperial Minister, who allows Mar-Vell to go back to Earth, more to get revenge on the Skrull who defeated him than to save Earth; Mar-Vell arrives just in time to see the Super-Skrull (disguised as Lawson) enter the Cape with the carrying case. "The Alien and the Amphibian!", script by Roy Thomas, pencils by Gene Colan, inks by Vince Colletta; In his hotel room on Earth, Mar-Vell laments over his conflict between his duties as a Kree soldier and his growing concern and care for the humans he may one day have to battle; His reverie is interrupted by Hal, the nephew of Mr. Logan (the owner of the hotel who is currently in a coma); Hal updates Mar-Vell on Mr. Logan's condition, and tells him that the Cape needs him to go to the base as soon as possible; At the Cape, Carol Danvers expresses her inability to trust "Lawson" and continues to investigate his background, while the launch control prepares to launch deadly bacteria into space to see how it will be effected by cosmic rays; Meanwhile, deep in the ocean, the Sub-Mariner is speeding to New York to seek the aid of Reed Richards for assistance in locating the villain known as Destiny. The Sub-Mariner's appearance here takes place between the fourth and fifth issues of his own title.

"In the Path of Solam!", script by Arnold Drake, pencils by Don Heck, inks by John Tartaglione; While aboard the Kree ship, Mar-Vell is in a holographic training session which is cranked up to a high level by Yon-Rogg, hoping that Mar-Vell will die during the experience; However, Mar-Vell succeeds in beating the computer; After, Mar-Vell is ordered back to Earth, where his identity is almost exposed by Carol Danvers when she spots the Kree ship returning to Earth's orbit and "Lawson's" sudden appearance in the middle of the road; Later, in his guise of Lawson, Mar-Vell meets with Dr. Norman Lundquist who is displaying his Solar Amplification Light-Cannon; Examining the device, Mar-Vell realizes that the device has the potential of creating a solar energy creature (which Mar-Vell dubs "Solam"); However, when Mar-Vell decides to try and destroy the device, Yon-Rogg strikes Mar-Vell through his wrist communicator; When the device creates a Solam creature, it goes on a rampage and gets strong as it absorbs more solar energy; Changing into Captain Marvel, Mar-Vell pools the resources of the world's most powerful computers together to come up with a solution as to how to destroy Solam. "Die, Town, Die!", script by Arnold Drake, pencils by Don Heck, inks by John Tartaglione; Teleported to the Kree home world, Mar-Vell is put in a truth chair and put on trial by Ronan the Accuser, over Mar-Vell's recent mission to Earth wherein he destroyed the SOLAM weapon; Mar-Vell manages to convince Ronan that he did so because in letting the Solam creature run rampant on Earth would have put his mission to jeopardy. Ronan accepts this testimony and allows Mar-Vell to return to Earth; However, he is sent on a mission to unleash a virus on a human town as a show of his loyalty; Yon-Rogg attempts to kill Carol Danvers with Kree weapons--however, as anticipated by Yon-Rogg--Mar-Vell comes to Carol's rescue, and Yon-Rogg uses the moment to fuel the seeds of jealousy in Una's mind; Mar-Vell agrees to help Carol investigate "Walter Lawson"; He uses the finger prints she gives him to make his match the ones Carol has on file, cementing his cover as Lawson. "And Fear Shall Follow!", script by Arnold Drake, pencils by Don Heck, inks by Vince Colletta; When a trading vessel piloted by members of the Aakon race, they detect a Kree vessel in proximity to the planet Earth; As age old enemies of the Kree, the Aakon decide to land on the dark side of the moon to avoid detection; However, their effort proves too late and Yon-Rogg orders his men to attack the Aakon, in spite of Mar-Vell's warnings that it wouldn't be a good idea; During the battle on the Moon, Yon-Rogg is injured in combat, and Mar-Vell is forced to kill the Aakon leader in order to save his superior, and both parties flee the scene of the battle; Mar-Vell assumes temporary control of the Kree vessel while Yon-Rogg is injured, however he soon returns to Earth; On Earth, Mar-Vell decides to investigate the home of the late Walter Lawson to turn up clues about the man's past, partially for Carol Danvers, and partially for his own curiosity. When he finds a secret lab where something big and humanoid is being constructed, Mar-Vell is attacked by members of the Organization, who had commissioned Lawson to build a robot to be their perfect assassin for them.

"Between Hammer and Anvil!", script by Arnold Drake, pencils by Don Heck, inks by Vince Colletta; While out in his Captain Marvel guise, Mar-Vell is attacked by an Aakon attack party; After a brief battle with the Aakon, Mar-Vell manages to escape; Meanwhile, at the hotel where Mar-Vell stays as "Walter Lawson", Carol Danvers convinces Mr. Logan to admit her into "Lawson's" room. However, before she can find anything of value, the repaired Cyberex appears and takes Carol hostage, taking her back to Lawson's lab; When Mar-Vell arrives as "Lawson" he learns about Carol's kidnap and goes after Cyberex and tracks the robot back to Lawson's lab; There Mar-Vell has his hands full when the Aakon attack party also arrives; However, when Mar-Vell realizes that the Cyberex is attracted to Lawson's scent on his note book, Mar-Vell writes a Kree code number on the cover of the book, and leaves it for the Aakon to get a hold of; When the Aakon think it's a coded Kree plan, they become targets of Cyberex who kills them to get a hold of the source of Lawson's scent; Mar-Vell then manages to destroy Cyberex once and for all with his Uni-Beam to smash open the robot's housing and break its repair mechanism.

Captain Marvel faces execution as a Kree traitor in "Die, Traitor!", script by Arnold Drake, pencils by Don Heck, inks by Vince Colletta (as Vinnie Colletta); After being thanked by Carol Danvers with another kiss when he saved her life from Cyberex and the Aakon, Mar-Vell returns to his ship where he gets the cold shoulder from Una; Ronan the Accuser calls in and orders Mar-Vell to try and forge an alliance with the Organization, as the Kree empire sees the Organization as potential allies in a future conquest of Earth; Returning to Earth and adopting his guise of "Lawson", Mar-Vell is driving with Carol when they are attacked by the Organization; Allowing Carol to be knocked out, Mar-Vell changes into Captain Marvel to seek out the Organization, however he is unaware that they capture Carol; When Mar-Vell approaches Number-One of the Organization with the idea of a truce, he learns that Carol is their prisoner; Mar-Vell decides to free Carol, and turns on the Organization.

"Rebirth!", script by Arnold Drake, pencils by Dick Ayers, inks by Vince Colletta; Mar-Vell is about to be executed, and as Una attempts to stop the execution, the Kree soldiers charged with assassinating Mar-Vell are killed by an Aakon attack party; As a battle erupts between the Kree and the Aakon, Una is fatally injured, prompting Mar-Vell to flee with Una's body; Seeking to try and save her life, Mar-Vell steals one of the rockets from the Cape in the hopes of getting Una to the Kree galaxy to save her life with their advanced technology; However, the trip is too long and Una dies before Mar-Vell can get her medical help. Burying Una on an asteroid, Mar-Vell goes back to Earth to try and get revenge againsy Yon-Rogg.

But before he can be taken into custody, the Man-Slayer, a robot created by Communists attacks the Cape; As Mar-Vell uses his illusion casting powers to distract the soldiers to get away and change into Captain Marvel, in Russia, the Black Widow breaks into the control room of the Communist leader who is controlling the Man-Slayer in an attempt to stop the attack from its source; However, before she can stop the leader, she is knocked out.

"Traitors or Heroes?", script by Gary Friedrich, pencils by Frank Springer, inks by Vince Colletta; Mar-Vell has returned to his apartment to try and establish a new civilian guise, however when the Man-Slayer reactivates under its own power, Mar-Vell returns to fight off the confused android; However, the robots proves too strong, and decides to escape with his teleportation powers; Teleporting into space, Mar-Vell sees the Kree ship being restocked by a supply ship, and uses the opportunity that the Kree ships shields are down to board the ship and confront Yon-Rogg; Mar-Vell manages to injure Yon-Rogg but is forced to return to Earth when he realizes that the Man-Slayer is threatening Carol's life.
